Crystal Castles 🙏

So, for anyone who hasn't stumbled upon them yet—Crystal Castles is this band from the USA, specifically out of New York City, and they're pretty much known for that super experimental vibe they've got going on. It’s basically just Ethan Kath and Alice Glass...
They've put out two albums so far: Crystal Castles (2008) and Crystal Castles ii (2010)
blah blah
We can probably dive deeper into all that while we're chatting, I guess 😁

Anyway... what are your actual thoughts on their music? Like, what's your take on their stuff?

Alright, then!
I listened to that one album of theirs with all the heavy hitters quite a bit back in the day.
After that, I just couldn't bring myself to get into it anymore...

Personally, I find their long, ambient tracks much more compelling than those short, bombastic ones.

I honestly think their second album blows the first one out of the water—like, ten times better. It’s way darker and has such a great ambient vibe... those 8-bit sounds they used on the debut started getting on my nerves after just a few tracks. All in all, though, they're a really solid band.

Totally agree.
I actually ended up downloading the second album first because it was getting all the hype over on Pitchfork...

Then I eventually got around to the first one... It’s such a weird, undefined style—some of the tracks give me major Super Mario vibes🤣

It wasn't until later that I even touched the first one... Their style is all over the place; some of those tracks honestly give me major Super Mario vibes.🤣

Okay, so maybe they sound a bit like Super Mario, but that first album is an absolute gem. It’s that classic 8-bit inspired sound—they've drifted away from it a little lately, but they still definitely hold onto that signature vibe.

Personally, I think they're amazing. I'm just counting down the days until they finally tour the States.🙂

I’m honestly dying to know what they’re actually like live—you just can't get that vibe from some random video online 😢
We actually had the chance to hit up Coachella once since it's not too far from us... but man, who knows how long the lines will be or if those prices are gonna absolutely wreck us this time 🙄

Whenever things fall apart, Alice Glass tends to carry this specific kind of attitude that I find incredibly grating. It’s often tied to that whole electro and nu-rave scene—both the performers and the fans. Beyond just the music itself, that particular vibe is one of the main reasons I’ve never really been able to get into that entire subculture...

Oh, and I just realized she’s actually just a kid...

Total drama queen, but let's be real—who isn't these days? I haven't heard of her snapping at a crowd like Axl Rose would, but with those drums hitting the audience like that, things aren't looking great 😁
She's Mlad, she's got plenty of time to figure herself out 😉

Good grief—and people claim rockers are the degenerate ones ☕. I just read that she ran away from home at 14 to live with addicts and the homeless 🤦—man, teenagers today
. If you look at almost any major pop icon—Britney, Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga—they've all struggled heavily with substance abuse

I caught them performing at Coachella, and I have to say, it was easily the most incredible live set of the entire festival last year!
Their energy was absolutely electric, they had such a deep connection with the crowd, and man, did they sound phenomenal...
Honestly, I think anyone who was there in the audience at Coachella would be more than happy to back me up on that!🙂
