David Gilmour

Just picked up this CD today. Has anyone actually sat down and listened to this new Gilmour record yet? It’s his first one in thirteen years... seriously... What’s the verdict? Any thoughts?

I mean, look—the album is solid enough that you really have to give it at least a three-and-a-half out of five, even if you aren't exactly a Pink Floyd devotee. And honestly, just because everyone is starving for anything remotely connected to the greatest rock band in history doesn't mean we should go overboard with the ratings.

But the bottom line is that the Stones got nothing but praise for their gritty little record over at Madison Square Garden. 🙄

Of course, that guitar still carries that unmistakable Pink Floyd vibe. It might sound a bit softer or even a little slower these days, but man, the soul is definitely still there.......
actually, I’m still sitting here listening to the album. Maybe I'll actually act a bit smarter after this weekend passes........but whatever, Gilmour is just Gilmour. The guy always delivers, totally flawless.......
it's just such a damn shame that David wouldn't go along with one last Pink Floyd tour featuring R. Waters.......

Yeah, pretty much... it’s solid enough, maybe a little soft in spots, but right there somewhere...

I picked up a copy the very moment it hit the shelves... It’s got that unmistakable, pure Pink Floyd essence we all know and love, though it features quite a few guest musicians who collaborated with him on the record...
The songwriting was actually handled by his wife...😉

There’s a show happening tomorrow night in New York City, and honestly, I didn't even realize the tour was happening until it was already completely sold out 🙂

It is an interesting bit of news, though... Wright is playing with him. It feels a little strange that Mason wasn't invited, especially since I know he's actually the one who wants to play with them more than anything else... I suppose Gilmour probably just didn't want to deal with any extra drama or complications.

I’ve had the record for about a week and a half now, and I’ve only spun it three times (aside from grabbing two different versions of the "On the Island" single online—one at 6 minutes and one at 9). All in all, it’s a nice, breezy little album that feels like the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming summer. I first really fell down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole during a long summer back in the day, so for some reason, I always associate them with this time of year. Plus, the whole ocean theme ties right into it. It’s a bit too early to give it a definitive rating, but I’d say 3.5/5 is a safe bet—unless I end up getting way too emotionally attached to the whole love and beach vibe 😎)

Well, who were you actually listening to then? Just the first two or three albums and some singles? If that's the case, you weren't exactly deep in the Pink Floyd rabbit hole...

I think that’s really the only thing worth holding onto. It’s not like I stopped listening to them later on, but what Gilmour is doing now is just pure commercialism.

Honestly, whenever I hear someone claiming that Pink Floyd just isn't worth listening to without Syd, it sounds like total nonsense to me... like they're just being stubborn for the sake of it. To my ears, the "Echoes" album and that "Live AT Pompei" documentary are easily some of the most incredible things I've ever heard from Pink Floyd, and honestly, a huge part of that magic comes down to those beautiful Gilmour guitar parts.
