My child is 18 months old and has congenital nystagmus. While the eye movements seem slightly more stable when looking straight ahead, focusing remains a significant struggle because of the constant left-to-right flickering.
I am reaching out to connect with adults living with nystagmus to learn from your experiences. I'm curious about treatment options—is there any way to manage it, perhaps through specific exercises? (Though since my little one is so young, cooperation is a challenge right now). I would also love to understand how you perceive the world—specifically regarding visual acuity and depth perception—and whether things like mobility or spotting obstacles in your path are difficult to navigate.
Any guidance from those who have lived with this condition would be incredibly helpful so I can begin appropriate therapies as soon as possible. Our ophthalmologist mentioned that the nystagmus likely won't subside on its own 🤷 and that we will get a clearer picture of my child's actual vision once they reach the speech development stage. 😕
Thank you very much!
