Hey there
So, I woke up this morning planning to grab some coffee and scroll through Facebook, but my laptop refuses to boot up! It was working perfectly fine last night, and I just shut it down after installing an update.
When I hit the power button, everything seems normal at first—it powers on and shows the Dell Inspiron logo during startup. But once it should be switching over to the Windows 8.1 logo, nothing happens. The screen just stays black. You can tell the display is actually on because the backlight kicks in, but that’s as far as it goes.
I've been searching all over the internet for this specific issue, but most people seem to have a totally blank screen from the start, whereas I'm getting stuck right after the initial logo.
I actually performed a clean install of Windows myself, and it's fully activated. To make matters worse, this laptop is practically brand new—less than a week old.

Look, just try hitting F8 or F9. One of those two should kill the screen.

I'm not trying to turn the screen off, and it isn't off when I boot the laptop up.
It's just that I can't figure out why my laptop won't fully start after the Dell Inspiron logo appears. It looks like it's about to show the Windows logo, but then nothing happens. The screen stays lit, but it's just black.

I'm running into the exact same issue. I tried a clean reinstall, but after the third round of Windows updates, the laptop just won't boot. It’s weird—it actually starts up fine the very first time I reboot, but after that, nothing. Even if I haven't touched anything or run any new updates, it stays stuck. I can't get it to trigger Safe Mode or Legacy mode either. Trying to run a repair or rolling back to a previous restore point hasn't helped at all.

I came across two other threads where people were dealing with this same headache:

https://forums.dell.com/t5/Dell-...e/td-p/1736763

https://forums.microsoft.com/t5/Windows...t/td-p/1738899

Has anyone here managed to find a fix yet?

Man, I had the exact same headache with my new Dell Inspiron, but I just let it sit there forever until it finally booted into Windows... maybe you just need some serious patience?

It only ever acts up like that when I’m running a Windows update... if you can just hang in there, you'll be fine... honestly, I’ve spent an entire hour staring at a loading screen once... my fiancée even called me at work freaking out about what was happening to my computer, and I just had to tell her, "Look, just wait, it'll finish eventually"

Maybe I'm totally off base here? But that's just how I handled it back in the day... look, I might just be rambling on, but hey, maybe this helps someone else somewhere
