DPI / Mouse Sensitivity Issues

Alright, here’s the deal. I honestly doubt anyone on this forum is going to have the fix for this because I can't find it through Google or common sense, but hey, let's give it a shot.

THE SHORT VERSION:
My mouse sensitivity is way too high while playing, and messing with my Windows settings doesn't do squat (I'm on Windows 7). Basically, changing stuff in the Control Panel has zero impact on the game, especially since the game itself doesn't even have its own sensitivity slider.

Now for the details.

I picked up a new, cheap mouse—it's an MS Bubble, though that doesn't really matter.
The thing has a ridiculously high default DPI (that's just how sensitive the mouse is right out of the box after you plug it in and install those drivers from back in 2006).
Now, look, I'm not an idiot; I know how to lower the sensitivity in the Control Panel, so I did that, and everything works fine normally.
The problem is that when I'm actually playing Total War (shame nobody plays this anymore), specifically during a battle—not in the menus—the sensitivity automatically snaps back to that crazy default setting the moment it's plugged in. It becomes way, way too fast for a strategy game. Changing the settings in the Control Panel does absolutely nothing to the sensitivity once the game starts, and again, there are no in-game mouse settings to fix it.

So, if anyone has a clue how to fix this, I would be seriously grateful.
I'm guessing the solution might have something to do with the registry? That's the only thing I haven't tried yet because I can't find any info on Google on how to do it, and I'm not exactly a registry wizard (I mean, I get the concept, I just can't figure out where the mouse settings are buried in there).

I honestly don't think messing with regedit is going to do much for you, because that basically just tweaks the settings within the Control Panel by changing things in the registry.

Besides, I haven't run into anyone else complaining about high DPI issues until now.

High DPI is actually a nightmare... The higher the setting, the faster the cursor flies across the screen. To make matters worse, I tried running CCleaner, rebooted my PC after the cleanup, and now nothing is working at all.

Seriously, I’m just hoping someone can figure this out. I’d love to adjust things, but if I move my mouse even an inch in real life, the cursor teleports to the other side of the monitor. It’s always me, isn't it? Just me dealing with these weird glitches that nobody seems to have a fix for xD
Usually, you'd just hit a button on the mouse to toggle the sensitivity up or down, but apparently, mine wasn't built with that luxury.

Did you check the mouse sensitivity in the game settings?

Alright, I went through everything. It took me a minute because I wasn't familiar with half of this stuff, but honestly? Most of it felt pretty useless since it’s just a guide on how to tweak your mouse settings for better precision in Counter-Strike: Source.
I’m trying to figure out how to make sure my Windows mouse settings actually carry over into the game, because the game itself doesn't even offer those options in the menu. Look, I mod games all the time, and I've poked around about 80% of the folders in this game's directory—there is absolutely nothing regarding mouse sensitivity. I’m guessing it’s buried deep inside an .exe or a .dll file, and unless I want to spend the next decade translating binary code, I’m not touching that. :P

I did a little test run using Amnesia: The Dark Descent... In that game, it uses whatever settings I have in Windows, so the mouse feels great there, plus it actually has its own internal mouse sensitivity slider.
The catch is that this specific game is a different beast entirely, which makes my problem even harder to solve when you consider only about 100 people are even playing it. 😢

Tried it... It’s a bust. All it does is mess with the camera speed, making it stutter or fly across the screen.
The only real fix I can see is just grabbing a mouse with adjustable DPI. That damn Total War runs at max speed and couldn't care less about whatever settings you've got tweaked in Windows.

Just go grab a basic Genius mouse then. I’ve had one sitting on my desk for four years and it ran Total War perfectly... was a solid little thing 😁

I cleared the campaign on hard about 15 times before I just lost interest. Switched over to RoN... honestly, playing on impossible is more my speed...

Open up the Device Manager. Locate the mouse, double-click it quickly, and find the setting where it lists the polling rate. Bump that up to 200 and see if it helps reduce the lag. You'll need to reboot.
That's on Windows XP. It should be possible on Windows 7 too, but I don't have the energy to reboot right now just to go hunting for it in Windows 7.
(Windows 7 isn't bad... my biggest issue is just how much harder it is to dig up technical settings in Windows 7.)

Man, I actually have something similar to that, it even has a little switch on the bottom to toggle between 800 and 1600 DPI 😁
The mouse itself is decent, but I swear it's such a total battery hog, so I'm definitely looking to pick up a new one soon.
