By the way, the sound that truck makes when it finally "dies" is basically identical to the roar you get from the T-Rex in Jurassic Park or that shark in Jaws 😁

Wow, this is such a great movie, almost forgotten... The only difference is that here we have a supernatural force at work instead of a malicious, unpredictable trucker.

There's another one that hits a similar note, Joy Ride.

Though, honestly, the original is miles ahead of it.

Joy Ride has a pretty stupid ending, but otherwise, it's quite good.

If we’re gonna talk about road movies, haunted cars, or killer trucks—man, there are hundreds of them out there... but honestly? Very few of them actually suck less than the rest.

Duel I've had this disc sitting around for ages—honestly, I haven't even gotten around to watching it yet—but I originally grabbed it specifically because it's Spielberg's debut. Like, realistically, it's his first actual movie, since before that it was just short films and some random episodes or whatever. I mean, there’s been so much hype surrounding it and the subject matter itself is just... yeah. Anyway, I definitely need to sit down and finally watch it sometime soon. 🙂

Anyway... Joy Ride Man, the first one was actually incredible—I haven't quite gotten around to finishing the sequel yet, since I kind of bailed halfway through, but... I guess I'll eventually get back to it. I’d also definitely have to throw Carpenter's into the mix. Christine That's an awesome movie—it’s got such a similar vibe to the one being mentioned here, I guess... maybe even more so. The Car.

So, I just stumbled upon some talk here about how the guy in Duel is basically some kind of maniac—which, yeah, I guess makes sense—but if you're looking for something that isn't exactly the same but still hits those same weirdly specific notes... maybe there's another movie out there that fits that vibe. The HitcherYeah, obviously from 1986—it’s a bit different, you know? The maniac isn't quite as mysterious as he could be, but I guess his intentions are exactly the same, if you ask me. Anyone who’s actually seen it will know what I mean... if you haven't, I'd highly recommend checking it out.

So, right now, out of all those road horror movies at my peak, I've got... Duel, The Car i Maximum Overdrive.

Maximum Overdrive is such a garbage movie that it doesn't even belong in the same league as those other disasters. It’s one of those movies that is so incredibly bad, it actually becomes fun to watch.It’s clearly a disaster, and honestly, you can probably blame it on the fact that Stephen King directed it himself—that’s likely why it turned out so bad. 😁

Christine is an absolute masterpiece of a horror flick, and that soundtrack? Pure perfection. Duel is just as incredible. Honestly, along with Jaws, those are the only Spielberg movies that actually hold water for me. As for the rest of his filmography, I just could never stomach it.

So, I watched The Wraith a few months back and... yeah, I wasn't really feeling it. It’s just your typical, run-of-the-mill 80s teen action "horror" movie—you know the type. I guess the one bright spot might've been young Sheen, but honestly? The movie is just bad. ☕

That movie is exactly that! Honestly, it's such a blast and I've always had a huge soft spot for it.

It’s a great, entertaining movie... and honestly, The Car isn't half bad either.

Duel is a top-tier movie. It belongs to that rare breed of films that actually seems to get better every single time you sit down to watch it. Honestly, the atmosphere they built here is almost impossible to compare to any other road movie out there.

I have a massive soft spot for movies about the open road, though unfortunately, most of them feel like total flops when held up against this one. I definitely agree that The Hitcher (1986) is fantastic—I’d even go as far as calling it a masterpiece—and Joy Ride is also pretty solid.
As for me, Christine (1983) felt pretty dull, Highwaymen (2004) was just terrible, and Road Games (1981) was equally boring.
If we're talking about my personal favorites, I’d recommend these lesser-known gems that are actually excellent:
-race with The Devil (1975)
-The Hitch-Hiker (1953)
- The Nature of The Beast (1995)😍

and then he spent maybe 500 yards riding along with it

I actually rewatched it last night—it’s one of those movies you can just binge in one sitting
My first rating back when I saw it at the local indie theater was an 8/10
Last night? A solid 10/10

For anyone who found themselves genuinely captivated by this movie, I would suggest giving Brakedown a look, featuring a truly phenomenal performance by Kurt Rasel in the lead role.👍
