Well, my doctor suggested it—apparently, it's highly recommended for managing symptoms related to food poisoning or allergies.

hm... you seem to be misinformed on this point. If an enema is being used to treat poisoning, it absolutely must be handled in a hospital setting. Attempting this at home isn't advisable because determining the proper indication is tricky; there are many medical conditions where an enema should actually be avoided, even if it might initially seem like the right solution...
