analogtiger343 said:Look, it’s pretty simple: you can find lists of bands online, including trios or duos. Just call them up, ask what they offer, and see if it aligns with what you want. If you find a match, book them, pay them, and call it a day. However, if you’re actually looking to mentally break a band or just go on some kind of wild power trip, you’re better off just hiring a DJ. A DJ will play exactly what you want, whereas no band can work strictly according to the instructions of someone who isn't musically educated—and honestly, it shows in your post, given how much you're mixing up terms and being a bit incoherent. That's not an insult, mind you; being musically uneducated happens. It's like how I'm not a doctor, so when I'm sick, I go to a professional to help me get better instead of trying to prescribe my own medication. It's the exact same thing with a band.
Don't forget, people need jobs, so most will take the gig, so first check if they actually have your requested songs in their repertoire, and if they do, iron out the details and just let them do their thing... and hey, try not to be rude. If you think everything they play is garbage, feel free to record your own song and prove you're better. You're paying for a service, not buying the right to treat them like crap.

Look, I’m not trying to undermine anyone’s expertise or talent, but I also know exactly what I want for my money. Every adult should know what they want and find the person—or in this case, the band—that can actually deliver it.

Speaking of doctors, since you brought him up: when I go to a doctor, I have to tell them where it hurts and how I'm feeling. Right? After that, the doctor tells me which pills I need to take. I don't walk into a clinic and say, "Hey doc, just start examining me from head to toe and you'll figure it out, because I won't tell you anything since you're the expert."
Plus, every properly prescribed pill comes with side effects.

For most normal people, a big party or wedding happens once in a lifetime, whereas you can visit a doctor whenever you want. I bet if you were facing heart surgery, you wouldn't just go in with a "whatever happens, happens" attitude; you'd definitely have questions you'd want answered.

Just like there are good and bad bands, there are good and bad doctors, mechanics, and so on.

I am buying a band's performance. That's facts. But I'm not hiring a band to play whatever they feel like; if I wanted that, I'd buy a ticket and head to a stadium to see The Rolling Stones or Depeche Mode. Here, I want a band to play the music *I* want. That doesn't mean I'm dictating their arrangements or technical setup, because as you mentioned, I'm not qualified to do that. But if a band costs, say, $2,500, then there has to be a standard where the person dropping that kind of cash gets what they asked for. It's up to the band to make that happen, since they're the pros in this industry. $6667

BTW, the whole thing about finding a band is settled. Done deal. As for the "penetration" talk, you're the only one here trying to force something on me. Based on your username, it's pretty obvious where you get your inspiration and what your life philosophy looks like.

Best,

Frank Sinatra

Does anyone have recommendations for wedding entertainment? I'm looking at everything from accordion players to folk bands...
I've heard some buzz about XXS Band, so I'd love to hear if anyone has actually hired them and what their experience was like...

Thanks in advance! 🎉

It’s Viv, hands down. If you want people to walk away with their ears ringing and a three-foot radius of empty space around them, then go with Boss. 🙂

I've actually been to two weddings where the Boss played, though I haven't really caught Viv live yet.

In my opinion, the Boss is incredible for setting the vibe—they’re a high-quality band that actually listens to the crowd and knows how to work the room. My only gripe was that they were a bit loud...
Then again, the venues had pretty low ceilings, so maybe that played a part in the acoustics... 😉

The wedding is on August 29th in San Francisco
I need flowers. I’m obsessed with tulips, but I want to mix them with something else.
Anyone have ideas? Also, does anyone know how much tulips go for per stem, or where I can find a good deal in the Bay Area or nearby??

Thanks

Need some ideas
Planning a small wedding, maybe 50 people tops, and I’m really feeling a terrace vibe. Somewhere in San Francisco or the surrounding Bay Area..
Any recommendations? And if you happen to know prices...

Thanks

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a band based out of the San Francisco area. I'm looking for a group that leans more heavily into the rock genre.

I reached out to Jessy Band, but they're already booked up. Does anyone know of a group with a similar vibe?

Hey, you should check out Ho roock—they are fantastic. Unfortunately, I can't book them myself right now, but they have a great selection of both American and international rock hits... plus they even have a saxophone if that's what you're looking for!!

Hey everyone, I’ve finally checked off the music, the venue, the photographer, and the dress—I still have the decor, cake and dessert station, favors, and rings left to figure out... but honestly, I know I can pull it off in time!! I heard there's a wedding expo happening on the 17th and 18th over at the Chicago, so I’m planning to head down there to scout some options and hopefully snag a few discounts. There should be some live bands performing too... so if anyone else is looking for ideas, let me know! 🙂

Nah. On the flip side, you're looking at someone who’s relatively literate and has a decent education. They’ve lived long enough to actually know what they want for their hard-earned cash, but they aren't claiming to be a genius either—which is why they bother asking for advice in the first place. Nothing more, nothing less.

neonfox32 said:Anyone been to Microsoft - BENE in San Francisco?

Two of my close friends had their weddings out there. One was in her fifth month, and the other was toward the end of August. What exactly are you looking to find out?

Honestly, the vibe there is great. The food? A bit of a letdown compared to what you'd get at a local deli like Publix. The wine is solid, though, and the service is just okay—nothing special. Budget about $40 to $50 per person depending on how much you order.

The vibe here is honestly gorgeous, but there’s a major design flaw when it comes to the seating layout. Since it’s basically just an outdoor summer patio, you run into a real headache if you have a large group. If you've got over 100 people, half of them are forced inside, which makes things super awkward. Once you split a crowd like that, they're effectively cut off from each other. It totally kills the group dynamic. ☕

The stage is split into two levels, so there’s technically enough room, but you're still dealing with two separate tiers. It’s the same deal as trying to squeeze everyone into specific seating sections. If you just have a DJ, one level is plenty and stays packed. But once a live band sets up, they eat up half the space, so you end up having to use both platforms to fit everyone. At the end of the day, how crowded it feels really just comes down to the size of the wedding and what kind of crowd shows up.

Smith pulled off a wedding for about 50 people over here. Honestly, I’m speechless—it was incredible. I’d throw a celebration exactly like that myself if I didn't have an extra 150 people to account for. 😁
The only real downside is the bathroom. It’s clean and all, but after you use it a few times, it starts to get that funky restroom smell.

You can drive all you want, but you just can't have that perfect vibe and a killer view right at your fingertips at the same time.

P.S. You can also grab a table outside by the pool if you want—there’s plenty of room. We ended up hanging out in the tavern since it was late autumn here, and things got pretty chilly once the sun went down.

Generally speaking, the vibe is great. Food's a bit of a step down compared to a deli in Columbus, wine is solid, service is just okay, and you're looking at $40-$50 per person depending on what you order.

The setting is beautiful, but there’s a catch with the layout since it’s basically an outdoor patio for a cafe/restaurant. If you have over 100 guests, half have to sit inside, which makes separating groups tricky—once you split them up, they feel totally disconnected. ☕

The dance floor is split into two levels, so there's space, but again, it's two separate tiers. Same issue with seating. If there's a DJ, one level works fine and stays packed. But if a live band plays, they take up part of the floor, forcing everyone onto both levels. How crowded it feels really depends on the guest count and the crowd.

Thanks for the info...
We're also looking at late August. With 50 people, that's about 6 tables, so we could probably all fit on one patio. We're leaning toward the outdoor vibe anyway.
Mainly wanted to know how people actually felt about it. First the food, then the service, then just the overall vibe.
Thanks for the reply, I'll keep that in mind.
I'm living abroad right now, so it's harder to make calls when I can't just walk over to the restaurant myself...

I was also weighing up Mozart or the Chicago hotel's upper pool terrace.

Hey there!
I was wondering if anyone here has actually caught a live set by Milan Terza? Like, has anyone been to one of their shows?
Thanks!

I was just weighing my options between eating at Grašo or hitting up the Radisson rooftop terrace by the pool.

We actually hosted a party at the Radisson back in October, and honestly? We were blown away. Their whole vibe, the professionalism, the way they handle things... everything was spot on. They checked off every single one of my random requests without breaking a sweat. It was absolute perfection. Highly, highly recommend!

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have suggestions on where to look for bridal jewelry in San Francisco (think necklaces, earrings, or hair accessories)? Thanks in advance.
