yvek, I can only really help you out with the decor and the boutonnieres. There’s a shop right across from the Library on the hourly; they carry everything live for decorations and have ready-made boutonnieres, plus they can custom-make whatever you've got in mind... most of my friends just used Palm Florist for their stuff, but I'm not sure about mimosa. Hope that helps even a little bit 🙂

Justin Sullivan2, everyone gets those artificial eyelashes done at that salon, I think it’s called Renata... you know, the one right by where you go to see Plodin on the corner. At least, that's what I heard, though I have no idea what they charge. Brandon Richardson6, where was that again, was it in Indianapolis?

Is Jess located right across from the library in Indianapolis?!

If they are, I definitely wouldn't recommend them. A really close friend of mine went there to get her nails done for her wedding party. She went on Thursday right before the big day, and then had to rush back on Saturday because they all started lifting up. It was just a terrible job.

I've also heard some bad things about the lash salon over by Plodin and Vissag.
The makeup is okay, and the girl working at Stanfelica’s office is great, but skip the lashes—they aren't any good.

I didn't even realize they did lash extensions over at Renata's place—who knew? :-)) Honestly, though, it’s driving me crazy that there isn't a single photo online. I actually asked if I could see some work, and she just tells me, "I have fifteen women booked every Saturday, so I don't really do guarantees." I mean, seriously? :S Just awful. :/ I'll probably get my lashes done somewhere the day before, and then head over to Studio 54 to get my makeup done—even though everyone tells me their looks are incredibly basic (it's all the same cookie-cutter style), but frankly, I don't care 😁

Hey, does anyone know where I can pick up some silver embellishments to sew onto fabric? I've been scouting around both Essen and New York City, but I'm coming up empty. All I see are those thin little ribbons meant for folk costumes. I need something more substantial to really make this rhinestone dress pop!!

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but check it out:

Maybe poke around the site a bit more to find something else... or just head to their shop and ask someone directly. Isn't that usually the best way to go?

I actually used http://www.foto-medo.com/ for my wedding back when I was five months pregnant, and honestly, I couldn't be happier with them. I looked everywhere from Indianapolis to St. Louis before finally settling on VK... As for the price, it really just depends on how big your guest list is.

This would be absolutely perfect for me, but I haven't actually been there yet! Still, thanks a ton!!!

granitegull35, I actually picked up a ribbon studded with silver zircons for my sister while I was traveling through the Midwest—specifically along the corridor. It was only about 2 bucks per yard ($2.75), which is a steal. Honestly, it looks stunning. Once the dress is finished (should be any day now), I’ll snap a few photos and send them over so you can see for yourself.

Why don't you just design the trim yourself? Buy some beads and stitch them onto a scrap of tulle exactly how you want it, then cut it out and attach it to the dress... or do you know someone who makes custom jewelry who could just whip it up for you?

That might be an option, I suppose—but then you’d actually have to track down the beads to roll them with. Personally, I haven't seen much of a selection at the Bagat in New York City lately. Not that there's much choice there anyway, is there? :S

By the way, does anyone have any solid recommendations for makeup services in Indianapolis? 😢

Also, I could use some advice on where to pick up a train set—where did you guys go?

Anna—if there is any way at all, cancel that contract with them. I’m telling you this from firsthand experience (my cousin used that exact photo studio when I was a bridesmaid in her wedding). Look, the photos themselves are okay, but the DVD? It’s a total mess—everything is cut short, jumpy, just a bunch of random clips... He probably filmed for maybe two or three hours until late at night and just called it a day. You end up with just two DVDs that you fly through in minutes, and that's supposed to be your one and only memory of the entire wedding. ☕
A ton of people who had weddings years ago used "Elijah," so nowadays, couples are picking totally different photographers because they've heard how bad the impressions were from those past weddings.
For instance, people say that "Brzica" is actually really great; you get plenty of shots and everything else is included for a fair price. $0.00
I hope this helps you out. 🙂

Thanks so much for the tips on the details! 🙂 My in-laws are coming over on September 2nd and I’m really hoping to put together some bright, colorful bouquets—but I have no clue what flowers are actually in season then??? Anyone know?

Looking for some recommendations for a solid photographer—budget is around $3333.

I’m really aiming for a specific vibe: vintage style, high detail—that kind of thing. I need someone young, fresh, and creative who can actually capture the mood and weave it all into a beautiful visual story. I reached out to May Perić, but she’s already booked up.

Feel free to shoot me a DM; I'm open to any leads you guys have.

Muchos gracias 😍

Check out the guys over at Studio 69; they might be exactly what you're after.
You can check out some of their work here: http://www.facebook.com/stu69dio?sk=wall

Or maybe try Franov http://www.marinfranov.com/

Leon Productions is amazing, but they'll definitely cost more than $3333

Hey everyone, first time posting here and I am seriously freaking out! I’m not from a big city myself, but my boyfriend is, so I'm a bit lost. I still have some breathing room since we’re looking at a summer wedding next year, but I have zero clue where to even start because I don't know the area... specifically looking for the inside scoop on planning a wedding in Des Moines. So, ladies, please help me out!! 🙏

Hey Daniel Barrett5! First off, let's talk about wedding venues. You can find tons of them, and most can handle a massive crowd—I mean, you know how it goes in the Midwest, weddings with 300 people are basically tiny. 🤣So, you've got names like Karamarko, Mima, Nikolina, and May Perić. Then there are the lesser-known ones—Budimir, Pralas, maybe even the Blaža Hotel. I can probably think of a few more, but those were the first ones that popped into my head.
Anyway, you can find plenty of bands and music options through those wedding links, or just go ahead and search on YouTube. http://www.freehouse.biz/I’d recommend Vox without a second thought—they play absolutely everything from folk to rock. Personally, I go with GS Sound out of the Des Moines area.
If you need invitations or any kind of decor, just hit up Staples. I've got more info on this, but I'm slammed right now—I'll post it later.
