Hey everyone... I wanted to start by saying I wasn't quite sure where to post this—whether it belongs under religion, psychology, or something else entirely... so, here I am.
Everything I’m about to tell you is completely true, and there are people who can back me up if needed.
I know how crazy this might sound, so please, I'm asking you to hold back on the insults or mocking comments; I don't think any of you would want to be in my shoes right now. That’s exactly why I’m coming here—I honestly need some help, whether that ends up being mental or physical support.

So, here’s the thing... it all started about three weeks ago. I was smoking weed with some friends, and as I was heading home, I saw a black cat. About an hour later, I ended up getting burned by a gas stove, and I just thought, "No way, it wasn't the cat," assuming it was just some weird trip or something I imagined. But then the next few days followed the exact same pattern: I'd smoke, head home, and see that black cat again. I even mentioned to a buddy of mine that something strange was going on, but of course, who is actually going to believe a guy who's high, right? Well, until he went into town with me a few hours later and we both saw the black cat ourselves. And then, things took a turn for the worse... my girlfriend collapsed, and she had to be rushed to the ER. Let me give you one more example. Today, I was just sitting in my living room around noon; it was sweltering outside, so I opened the door for a bit. I sat there for maybe twenty minutes when a black cat just wandered right into my house... straight into the living room. And look at the weather right now—it’s absolutely pouring rain, the thunder is constant, and the whole city is dark because of a power outage... or maybe it's just my house, I can't really tell through the window. And then there was this other thing... I was walking home from my girlfriend's place around midnight, and about two blocks away from her house, I stopped to tie my shoe, and someone nearby started screaming hysterically. My heart just stopped in that moment. Now, I know what you're thinking—"it's just some stoned guy"—but seriously, put yourselves in my position for a second. Would you be able to just shrug this off? I can't post my real name or any personal info here because I really don't want to end up being committed to a psych ward. So, I'm looking for some advice... does anyone have any ideas? Please, just be understanding and take this seriously...

It isn't really about whether I should go or not... the hard part is actually saying the words out loud, because honestly, I just have no idea what I'm walking into.

You can either talk through what you wrote here—just lay it all out—or I can help you find a referral for a psychiatrist.

Drop the weed right now and just go see a psychiatrist through your insurance—tell them exactly what’s going on here, just like you did in this thread. I’m being dead serious; if you want proof, just go back and read my post history.

How old are you anyway? Are we talking 17, 18, maybe 19?

Wait, you’re actually telling someone they need to see a psychiatrist just because they spotted a black cat??? Are you guys kidding me right now, or what? 😕

I’m only 18... and honestly, I feel like my biggest problem is this black cat following me around, because it seems like bad luck just follows me everywhere I go.

The real issue here isn't the cat; it's the way this person connects dots while sober after messing around with weed a few times back when they were eighteen. It’s incredibly telling—the moment this topic is even brought up, the red flags start flying. Honestly, there shouldn't even be a debate here unless the author is just some troll looking for attention.

What’s even the big deal? You got a black cat living out in some small town in the Midwest?

I mean, when is someone actually going to step up and try to lecture me about smoking weed? Honestly, I ended up in juvenile detention because I was lighting up a few times a day for about a year straight. So, please, don't come at me with those tired, old-fashioned lectures, because I've already been through the wringer and lived to tell the tale.
It’s just weird, you know? Like, things seem to happen right after I sober up, almost like there's some strange pattern at play. For instance, I saw a cat earlier this morning, and then just two hours later, there was a massive car wreck only about a block away from my house, right near the intersection. It's just one of those things where you can't help but wonder why.

Ugh, oh my gosh, there are seriously SO many people out there who connect random events in that exact same way! Like, if every single one of them actually went and sought out professional help from a psychiatrist, being a shrink would basically become the most high-demand job on the planet overnight.

Finding patterns where there aren't any and seeing exactly what we want to see is such a massive, classic glitch in the human brain, and it's the root cause behind everything from religion and superstitions to wild conspiracy theories and so much more!

It’s getting pretty hard to tell where reality ends and weed-induced hallucinations begin.😕

The whole situation is just bizarre.
First things first, maybe take a break from the cannabis and just see how things settle down.
If stuff like this starts happening again, your best bet is to head straight to a doctor to get a formal referral. From there, we can look into some other alternative routes if you feel like they might actually help.
Only if you really feel like it's worth a shot, though. 😁

I'm with you on that. Honestly, I’ve had my own share of weird spiritual encounters—the kind that make you question everything—so I'm definitely not saying what you're feeling isn't real. But seriously, before you go chasing ghosts or whatever, you really need to rule out the possibility that the weed is messing with your head.

It seems like you're feeling pretty shaken up by all this. I guess it might be a good idea to maybe reach out to a professional who can help you work through it. Best of luck with everything.🙂

I think anyone who agreed with my initial point was aiming at one specific thing here:

The paranoid habit of linking random events together that persists LONG AFTER the weed has worn off, rather than just while someone is high -> age 18 -> textbook indicators of the prodromal phase of schizophrenia -> go see a psychiatrist immediately.

That’s the elephant in the room right there. If that isn't the case, fine, but if they're still obsessing over black cats and trying to bridge unrelated events, they need to get to a doctor right now.

To be totally honest with you guys, I haven't even smoked today. Weed doesn't actually mess with my head or change how I act; I feel pretty level-headed, and I think my behavior reflects that too. But I really need to tell you about what happened today... So, I was just sitting on my porch having a smoke when I spotted her sitting on the neighbor's roof, just staring right at me. About half an hour later, I went over to see my girlfriend, and she tells me her best friend just collapsed—she hit her head on the side of the tub and ended up in the ER. That's what I wanted to share with you all. There's definitely something spiritual going on here, but honestly, I don't think it has anything to do with the weed; it’s more about my own thoughts and energy. I tend to be pretty rational when it comes to haunted stuff and things like that, because I know if you disrespect God, it's going to come back to haunt you. We all know there's another side to things after we die, right? Anyway, back to what I was saying... In my girlfriend's room, there's this object that looks like some kind of talisman—I'm not sure what kind, but it has three circles and black feathers on it. I told her it was total nonsense, that it wouldn't bring luck or whatever, and ever since I said that, everything started falling apart. It only crossed my mind today while I was spiraling a bit and searching for answers online. Now, if what I've "pieced together" in my head is true—if I actually want to stop this streak of bad luck and these weird occurrences—apparently I'd have to drink the blood of a black cat. Of course, I can't do that because I don't have the heart to hurt one. But I found out online that people who believe in this stuff sometimes try to defy the dark forces that way. So, that's all I've got for today. I talked it over with my girlfriend, though. I told her that if this keeps happening once I head out to Florida for vacation, I might actually have to go through with that ritual, as sick as it sounds. I just really don't want to end up in a psych ward by the time I'm eighteen.

Look, I don't think I'm being rude or anything, but I was definitely smoking weed back then too, and now I smoke way more often. And honestly? My head is crystal clear and my thinking is super rational.

Well, there you have it—you've got the advice and you've got the solution right in front of you. Honestly, I don't see much point in keeping this thread open over on the Psychology board anymore. Best of luck with everything!
