There are two ways to set up a poll on a thread.

1. Creating a poll while starting a new thread

On the new thread creation page, look right under the main text box. Under Miscellaneous Options, you need to check the box labeled Yes, create a poll with this topic. Directly underneath, select how many response options you want. Clicking New Thread will take you to the poll configuration page. This is where you define the question and the possible answers users can choose from. Below that, there is a text box where you can specify how long the poll should remain open for voting. Once that time expires, the poll closes, though the results stay visible. There are also two other useful checkboxes. The first lets you decide if voters pick just one answer or multiple. The second determines if the vote is public (showing which user voted for which option) or private. To finish, just click the Post new poll button.

2. Adding a poll to an existing thread

To reach the poll setup for an active thread, enter the topic and click on topic tool (located above the first post), then select Add poll to this topic. From there, the process is identical to the first method. Note that only the original poster can add a poll this way, and only while they still have permission to edit their first post. Once that window closes—usually within 90 minutes of the thread being started—the ability to add a poll to that specific thread is gone.

If you aren't active on Reddit for more than a few minutes, the system will Automatically log you out. You can change this setting so you stay logged in until you decide to log out yourself. Just check the remember me box when you sign in (see image).

If you're sharing a computer with other people (without everyone having their own user profile on the PC), make sure you don't forget to log out before you leave.

To get to the avatar change page, just click on Options > Edit avatar or follow this link:

Check the box for Use Custom Avatar. Then, either paste an image URL into the first textbox or use the second textbox along with the Browse button to pick a file from your computer. Once you're done, hit the Save changes button.

Keep in mind there are size and weight limits for avatars. Dimensions can't exceed 50x50px (60x60px for moderators), and the file size must be under 9.8KB. You have to meet both requirements.

The Site Admins reserve the right to remove or edit any avatar.

Since you need to shrink images to make them fit, you can use whatever photo editing software you have on your PC, or just use a dedicated website. Some examples:

Just make sure the final avatar stays within the allowed limits (75x75px; 29.3 KB).

You can only delete a post before the editing window closes. You'll need to hit the Edit button, then select advanced option:

The option to delete will pop up at the top of the page. Just choose Delete message, maybe give a reason why, and click Delete this message.

If you can't get it to work that way, you'll have to contact a moderator.

There are several ways to handle quotes on Reddit. The first and most straightforward method is to click the button within the post editor to insert your desired quote. Once you do that, the text box will look like this:
There is only one good, which is knowledge, and one evil, which is ignorance.

The final result of such a quote looks like this:

Additionally, you can specify the author of the quote by following this format:

To reach the page where you can change your CUT, just click on Options > EDIT Your Details or head straight to this link:

Under Custom User Title, simply type in the CUT you want in the text box. Once you're done, hit the Save changes button.

The Site Admins reserve the right to remove or edit any CUT at their discretion.

To change your email, just head over to Options > option > EDIT email & password or simply use this link:

Enter your current password in the top box, then type your new email address twice in the fields below. Once you're done, hit Save changes.

If you want to shut out an annoying user on Reddit, you can just make their posts invisible to you. Just head over to their profile by clicking their name and select User lists > Add to ignore list. They won't even know you've blocked them, and they'll still be able to see your posts like normal.

To view just a single post, simply click on the number located in the top right corner of that specific post within the thread.

There are 2 ways to add links to a post:

1. The "Raw" method

Do this:
http://www.example.com/

The result looks like this:
http://www.example.com/

However, there is an easier way. If you have the Automatically parse links in text box checked when posting, the forum will Automatically add those URL tags for you. Simply type the URL as plain text, and the forum handles the rest.

2. Using Hyperlinks

Do this:

The result looks like this:

Again, you don't need to type out these tags manually. For this specific case, just click this button in the post editor:
The forum will then Automatically generate the necessary tags for you.

Here’s the link to the thread, though if you want to jump straight to a specific post, there's a workaround. First, click the post number in the top right corner. That opens a new page with just that single post. From there, click the topic title in the top right, and it'll bring you back to the full thread starting from that exact spot.

1. Using Multi-quote for several different posts

If you want to quote multiple different posts at once, here is how you do it. For every post except the very last one you want to include, just click the Multi-quote button. Once clicked, the button turns red, which means that specific post has been selected for the multi-quote. Finally, for the last post, just hit the regular Quote button. This will pull all those selected posts into your reply box.

The buttons look like this:
  • Multi-quote:

  • Quote:


Example: If we want to quote two posts, we click the Multi-quote button on the first post. It turns red. Then, we click the Quote button on the second post. Both posts will then appear in the reply field. For an example of how to respond to a multi-quote, see part 2 of this post.

A topic starter can change the title as long as they still have permission to edit the first post in that thread. To change the title, just navigate to the relevant sub-forum and double-click quickly near the target title—say, slightly to the right.

If the window to edit the initial post has closed, you'll need to contact a moderator.

To reach the signature editing page, just click on Options > EDIT email & password or follow this link:

Type in whatever you want, then hit the Save signature button to confirm.

If you actually want your signature to show up in your posts, you have to enable it. When you're writing a post, look under Miscellaneous Options and check the box for show my signature.

When signing up for Reddit, any new user can enter the username of the person who referred them. This increases that user's referral count. There is no way to see which specific user referred whom. These referrals serve no other purpose.

Users can subscribe to specific threads to make tracking their favorite topics much easier.

1. How do I subscribe?

There are two ways to manage your subscriptions. The first way is to enable automatic subscriptions for every thread you reply to. To do this, head over to Miscellaneous Options > option > EDIT Your Details or just use this link:

You can set your preferences under default Thread Subscription mode. A breakdown of what each setting actually does is provided in the next section.

The second way to subscribe is manually for individual threads. Just jump into the thread you want to follow, click on topic tool > Subscribe to this thread. A window will pop up where you can pick your notification style (explained below), then simply click Add subscription to confirm.

2. What are my subscription options?

You have five different ways to handle notifications:
  • Do not subscribe
    This is the only way to actually cancel a subscription. All other choices create a new one. So, if you want to stop auto-subscribing or remove a specific thread from your list, select this option.
  • No email notification
    This is standard subscribing. Choosing this simply adds the thread to your list of followed topics. You can find out how to view that list in the next section.
  • Instant email notification
    This works just like the previous option, but with one difference: whenever someone replies to a subscribed thread, you’ll get an email alert immediately.
  • Daily email notification
    Similar to the instant option, but instead of getting an email for every single reply, you'll receive one summary email per day covering all updates in your subscribed threads.
  • Weekly email reminder
    Identical to the daily option, except you'll only receive one summary email once a week.


3. How do I view my subscribed threads?

There are two different ways to view them. The first method shows only the threads you follow that actually have new posts. You can access this by clicking Miscellaneous Options or using this link:

The second method displays every single thread you are subscribed to. Threads with new posts will be highlighted just like they are on the main subreddits (bolded and featuring an icon that links directly to the first unread post). Access this via Quick Links > Subscribed threads. Alternatively, you can use this link:

You can insert images by clicking the image upload button () and pasting the image URL into the pop-up box, or just type it out manually:

For an image to actually show up on Reddit, it has to be hosted somewhere on the web first. If you're trying to use a file from your own computer, you'll need to upload it to an image hosting site. Here are some common ones:

Uploading to these sites is pretty intuitive, though they tend to tweak their interfaces constantly. I won't get bogged down in the specifics of how to use them. Once you host the image, you'll get a URL, which you then use following the steps mentioned above.

It's worth noting that most of these sites provide ready-made BB code for posting on forums. In those cases, you can just copy and paste that code directly into your post without needing any of the steps described at the beginning of this post.

You also need to keep the Reddit rules in mind. Posting images larger than 640px (either width or height) isn't allowed. You have three options for larger images:
  1. Resize the image
    You can do this on your computer using an image editor, but most of these hosting sites also offer automatic resizing tools. Take a look at their features.
  2. Create a clickable thumbnail
    This option is specifically available when using the hosting sites listed above. The idea is to post a small preview image on Reddit that links to the full-sized version when clicked. Most of these sites generate this automatically, so look for the clickable thumbnail option. Example (clicking the image):

  3. Link directly to the image
    This is the easiest method. The image itself won't appear in the post, but there will be a link that leads to the image.
