Regarding the main categories, I guess the biggest surprises for me are the nominations for Kate Winslet for Best Actress, along with Philomena and Rush for Best Picture. I can't quite remember the last time we had such a remarkably strong year for film.

Totally expected, really. No big surprises here. Well, maybe one little thing. I figured most of these picks were coming, but there are a couple of names that actually caught me off guard—in a good way! I’m talking about Rush in the Best Drama category. Even though the reviews were killer, I wasn't entirely sure if it would translate to awards. At least for the Golden Globes so far; we'll just have to see what happens with the Oscars. It’s solid, though. As for the lead actors, which was probably more predictable, I’m stoked to see Idris Elba. And for supporting roles, Daniel Brühl is back for Rush, along with that pirate guy from Captain Phillips. For people like Kate Winslet and Greta Gerwig, I have this feeling they were just there to fill the gaps. Not that they weren't great—I just watched Frances Ha recently—but there just wasn't that massive hype about them winning anything big.

As for the TV shows, I am genuinely shocked that Homeland isn't showing up anywhere, not even for Best Series. Neither The Americans nor Lewis made the cut, and those two have basically swept every award over the last two years. You can see that classic pattern where the Golden Globes try to make room for newer shows, providing that typical dose of surprise. Orange Is the New Black, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Michael J. Fox Show... and am I seeing things, or is Ernie Spader actually nominated for The Blacklist? 😲

Anyway, I’ve always liked the Golden Globes because they feel more casual than the Oscars or the Emmy Award. Since they split categories into comedy and drama, you naturally get more nominations and fewer "snubs." 😁 Tina and Amy are leading the pack again this year, so let's see how it unfolds on January 12th, 2014. And yeah, I agree, this is one hell of a year for movies. If you ask me, it's better than the last two years combined.

Yeah, unfortunately, I'm seeing the same thing. Honestly, all three of those shows are top-tier in my book. But maybe it’s actually okay—giving more breathing room to the newer series. Still, Homeland was definitely the first one that popped into my head because ever since it premiered, it was basically a magnet for awards. Season one? Boom—4 Emmy Awards and 2 Golden Globes. Then season two hits and you get another 2 Emmy Awards and 3 Golden Globes. It honestly blows my mind that they went from all that straight down to zero nominations.

Honestly, everything turned out pretty much how I expected. 🤷

I was a little surprised by Rush, but hey, whatever...

Man, I really should have placed a bet because I had this gut feeling that everyone mentioned for Best Actor would end up nominated. 🙂
This is actually the first time I've felt this way. 😬 So, what does it mean? Does this make it a bad year or a good one? 🤷

What names showed up in those mini-series 🙏 🙏

Everything they hyped up as being amazing actually got nominated... out of all that stuff, I only caught Gravity and Rush in theaters. I think everything else barely even made it to the big screen here, if I remember right... 🤔

It’s totally unpredictable who’s going to take home what 🤷 I feel like we need to see the SAG nominations first to get a better idea of things...

EDIT: Homeland didn't get any nominations, WTF... that season was anything but bad :OO

Why? What’s so bad about it? I mean, she’s already cleaned up quite a few Emmy Awards and Golden Globes over the last two years. Everything from the screenplay to the acting, and even some of the technical categories.

Why on earth didn't they nominate Scarlett for Best Supporting Actress for Her? 🍿 🙂 I mean, sure, it was "just" a voice... but honestly, everyone seems totally blown away by how the movie handled that and how incredible her performance was. Plus, she already snagged a nomination for that exact role at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards... now we just wait and see what the BAFTA crowd thinks about it. 🥳 So far, the Golden Globes have completely snubbed her. 🙂

I haven't seen it, so I can't really weigh in, but from what I do know, I'm rooting for Tom Hanks first, and then maybe Leo at the Oscars and the Golden Globes. It's such a shame that after Prisoners, there wasn't even a p OFF 😢

Caught last night's recording, and honestly... I've got a few thoughts on the ceremony itself. It was quite the ride. There were some total snoozefests, some parts were actually interesting, a couple of moments were super awkward, and then there were bits that were just pure comedy gold.

Also, seeing George Clooney and his wife, that whole stage freakout near the San Francisco Bay area, and Shia LaBeouf being hilarious—plus a bunch of other ridiculous moments—was pretty funny.
