Would you be so kind as to open a thread titled 'Women and Music' over at Zionist Kitchen?

Let’s leave out those who would just bicker and derail the discussion; this topic actually holds more potential than most realize. You shut it down after a mere eleven posts, before I even had the chance to respond since I've only just logged on.

It would serve as a perfect case study on how and why we debate taste, and why everything isn't just uniform. It would also be fascinating to identify which "exhausting" types of people the forum regulars find intolerable within the rock scene. Ultimately, the goal would be to uncover why the majority of women in the audience tend to gravitate toward kitsch and poor taste.

Naturally, I couldn't care less about childish personal attacks.

But I had barely started the thread when various frustrated girls—who clearly know nothing about music or anything else for that matter—began trying to sabotage it. Remove them, and we can actually get the conversation moving properly.

Two women actually showed up ready for a real debate, and that would be interesting.

Let’s just skip this one; we really don't need threads like this cluttering things up.

Starting a debate about how women—or men, or any other group for that matter—"just don't get music" or are somehow "clueless" isn't some deep philosophical insight. It's just a lazy attempt at trolling.
And honestly, calling the women you're arguing with "frustrated little girls"? That doesn't make you look smart, and it certainly doesn't give your argument any weight.

Whoa, slow down. You completely misread me.

1. Using the word "dimwits" was meant as a joke, not an insult. Unless you interpreted it otherwise. If someone walked up to me and said, "Are you actually dimwitted?" I certainly wouldn't have a meltdown over it... it doesn't affect me that much.

2. Hold on—this commentary on music and specific demographics isn't just trolling, and here is why:
- Can we all agree that not everyone on this planet understands music? It doesn't matter if they lack the connection to it or simply don't possess the capacity; you aren't going to tell me every single person on Earth is a genius. If that were true, every second person would be a Tesla, an Einstein, or a Nietzsche... just to use examples. Groups vary, sure, but people are diverse.
- Furthermore, just as people have different psychological and intellectual profiles, they have different tastes. People listen to what they can comprehend, as well as whatever the music industry pushes, because the industry isn't going to make money off some obscure indie singer. Since intelligence is relatively rare and the average person falls at or below that mark, it stands to reason that most will gravitate toward what matches their level of understanding.
- Then there are those who are highly intelligent but simply weren't raised around quality because they grew up surrounded by mediocrity.
- It would also be interesting to actually define taste versus bad taste. What is one band discussing versus another? Which ones embody sociological concepts, artistic expression, philosophy, or even Monty Python, and which ones are just mindless pop? A comparison. But we also have to consider that someone might ignore high art because they are focused on entirely different intellectual pursuits; they just aren't interested in music.

3. That comment about "frustrated little girls" was just a minor defense against the barrage of insults you can see happening over there. Honestly, the derailment of the topic by people like that bothers me more than the actual insults. Who am I to demand respect? But if you step into the ring with me, you have to be ready for the counterpunch. I hit back. And I don't get tired. But that wasn't the intention of the discussion.

A certain musician and writer once said, "You are what you listen to," and suggested that one can judge a person's character and intellect based on their playlist.

4. Just because someone has a massive record collection at home doesn't mean they actually understand the music—I've been proven wrong a million times, especially once you factor in whether the albums are actually any good. This isn't about using famous names as gospel truth; people often use big names as a shield to say you aren't allowed to criticize them. Often, lesser-known artists are superior because the masses, as I defined them, cannot grasp certain artistic ideas that go beyond mere entertainment.

So, you see, if we approached this topic without the constant mockery, it could actually be quite interesting.

There is another issue I’d address immediately: whenever a certain individual feels intellectually inferior, they invariably resort to personal attacks like, "You're full of yourself," "You're acting superior," or "You're being disrespectful." That isn't the case. I act the way I act in real life; I'm not a hypocrite, and my behavior is normal to me. Just because some people feel intellectually threatened and want me to degrade myself to their level to make them comfortable—well, that isn't going to happen.
It is their own insecurity driving their aggression. I continue as I am, and they just get more hostile. They fail to realize they can't control or diminish anyone else.

People like that should be banned; they are a blight that ruins discussions.
