There isn't a dedicated thread for this fast music genre yet.

Just a quick little primer to get things moving...

Grind(core) is basically just loud, fast, aggressive noise—heavy on the blastbeats and those inhuman vocals. Most people point to Napalm Death as the ones who really birthed the whole thing. Tracks usually end right when the crowd starts losing their minds. 🤷
It’s got roots in that old-school, honest hardcore punk scene, mixed with bits of metal and crust. I guess since postmodernism touches everything nowadays, you see plenty of digital elements too. There are all these subgenres that feel like total white noise to me—I can't really tell them apart because, honestly, it's all just beautiful carnage to my ears. 😬 If anyone wants to dive deeper and explain the nuances, be my guest.

Post about your favorite bands and albums. Just please, don't give me one-sentence reviews. 🙂

This is, I believe, a total classic from the genre back in 1988, and honestly, there isn't much more to say about it. You've got that chaotic production, super political lyrics, dual vocals, and just pure, raw power.

* - Now, if you ask the purists whether this counts as crust or grind, I guess they'll have an opinion, but personally, I'm not quite sure this time—though I don't think anyone actually cares. I feel like at a certain point, you just run out of things to say without sounding a bit silly myself🤷

My favorite track: murder, obviously.

Anal Cunt seems like they were basically formed just to cater to Spajka, or maybe Budjet... and all those other queer vibes (hey there, Naranco 😉)... honestly, if Foka is into watching people suffer, this might actually be right up her alley (unless she's actually a reptilian 🤔)... .
It doesn't really make sense to pick specific albums because they all deserve 🙏 and the songs are the same deal, but I'll pull a few out just so you guys get a sense of the vibe:

Look at all you patriots... nobody even thought to mention Pataren. Legend has it they actually influenced napalm Death. They even played and recorded with Agathocles and Anal Cunt... ☕

It has actually been quite a while since I last really immersed myself in any grindcore. I suppose I used to listen to Napalm Death and Pataren the most, which is exactly what I intended to mention, but I seem to have lost my train of thought.

There is plenty of chatter about it on various forums, and a few bands have even posted announcements on MySpace, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet:

I just remembered one specific band that I've listened to more than any other when it comes to grind, specifically because their music is so incredibly extreme:

Impetigo

Here is just a small excerpt from Wikipedia:

Impetigo was an Illinois-based hardcore punk, grindcore, and death metal band. They were among The First bands to Use clips fra films and other Media as intros for their songs.

I have to bring up the legendary TERRORIZER and their 1989 release, "World Downfall." It’s easily one of the most hit-oriented grindcore albums ever made—maybe even the only one you can actually dance to. Grindcore with actual groove... it’s something else entirely. The lineup for that record was basically an all-star squad: Jesse Pintado from napalm Death on guitar, Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel on drums (is he God or the Devil?), along with the incredible vocalist Oscar Garcia and the even better bassist Alfred Estrada. When they reunited a couple of years back, they replaced those guys and put out "Darker Days Ahead." It wasn't a bad record—not when you've got Pintado and Sandoval involved—but it really had nothing to do with the original TERRORIZER vibe. Sadly, Jesse Pintado passed away shortly after (or maybe even just before?) that album dropped, so the band is effectively gone again... and that’s pretty much the story. "World Downfall" is an absolute classic. In my opinion, it's the definitive starting point if you want to get into grind...

The legend online is that ENT didn't even find out about the release until the package actually showed up at their door. I guess after listening to it, the studio was basically fed the contents of the box! Honestly, it might just be the absolute worst sounding thing ever pressed onto vinyl. 🙏

Some trivia we should probably look into: I wonder if this was recorded using nothing more than a handheld dictaphone? 🤣

I don't think so. I have a few tapes and concert recordings made with his dictaphone that sound more like Pink Floyd compared to ENT. Then again, maybe if he did, he was recording from the balcony at the club...

Anyway, looking back at everything I wrote—but totally forgot to mention—Le Scrawl is basically the Bible. It's Grindcore mixed with elements of ska and some easy listening jazz. There's a little something for everyone, and it's honestly a blast. 🙂

Extreme conditions demand everything from you. Metalheads are basically just virgins who spend all their time watching UFC because they’re too terrified to step foot in a public school for fear of getting jumped by some local frat bros.
I totally skipped over grind when I was first getting into music, with the exception of Napalm Death. I only really circled back to it after I heard that intense grind drumming on Ayler's Live in Greenwich Village album.
I’ve always had more respect for grind that crawled out of the punk scene, whereas most metal just feels like straight-up diarrhea.

The whole concept of grindcore actually traces back to the word "grind." Honestly, that was the only way I could wrap my head around describing Swans after I picked up their first record back in '84. Fast forward to '85, when this massive new hardcore scene started blowing up, and I realized "grind" was the perfect descriptor for that sheer, relentless speed. That’s basically how I started calling it grindcore.

Back when they actually functioned as a real band and were putting songs together. I honestly can't even get into the rest of their material because, frankly, reading the song titles is way more interesting than actually listening to them... fuck that.

Besides that, they’re one of those rare bands that actually holds their own live. Honestly, they’re probably among the top five strongest live acts overall.

Honestly, this falls right into that category of postmodern bullshit, though I have to admit, it’s done well. You’ve got instruments like xylophones and cowbells popping up all over the place.
Solid music.

Carcass - Carcass - Reek of Putrefaction

Look, I mean every single Carcass album hits the spot—even that one rock-leaning stuff we all know about—but this specific one? This one just hits different. It’s got a special place in my heart.
It’s pretty damn pointless, but since we've got untalented hacks like gentlepuma20 hanging around here bragging... Impetigo Honestly, I can't even shock my late grandma with my stories anymore, so I might as well recommend this to you guys too.
I’m actually getting more * for printing lyrics on the cover art now: Your vagus nerve just implodes while the nausea hits full force. It’s basically your body getting savaged by a terminal retch—violent spasms and those decaying enzymes just engulfing your throat right as you belch.

Synthetic grind. Even if it doesn't officially claim the grindcore title, it still grinds just as hard as the real deal.

I can't believe nobody has brought this up yet.
Honestly, they’re the only crust band on the planet that actually knows how to have a good time. They leaned hard into that Grind style, just pure wall-to-wall noise and heavy sampling. What I loved most was how much they poked fun at those massive scene legends like DRI, Napalm Death, and Suicidal Tendencies. To me, the rest of those bands always felt a bit too precious—they wouldn't give an ounce of respect to anyone who didn't fit their specific, narrow definition of what "real punk" should be.

You know you’ve found some legit grind when you can actually sit through the whole thing in one go without needing a break. This record's dynamics are fucking killer—the way they play, they just absolutely murder those instruments. It probably leans more toward crustgrind, though there's definitely some classic death metal vibes mixed in there too.

Rotten sound - The Cycles


The guitar tone on Casket garden sounds like Morbid Angel trying to play Scum. They're currently touring with Disfear, but honestly, the old records are total trash—everything from 2000 onwards is basically ****1/2.

Who doesn't love some good old-fashioned grind? Especially that Napalm cover of those Nazi punks—seriously, it’s hands down the most aggressive Antifa track ever made...

I’d also highly recommend checking out Embalming Theatre. These guys from Switzerland are the real deal; their 2003 album, sweet Chainsaw Melodies, is absolutely killer.

I’d also highly recommend checking out Pyorrhoe, specifically their 2004 release, Desire for Torment. They’ve got this perfect amount of gore elements that really defines why they’re such a genius band. Their follow-up in '06, The Eleventh : Thou Shalt be my slava, leans more into a death/grind blend, and honestly, it’s the absolute peak of pure creativity and raw aggression.
