Hey everyone, I'm new here and could really use some advice.

About 7 or 8 months ago, I lost my cool and ended up punching a wall with everything I had. I know, looking back, it was a total idiot move and I feel pretty bad about it now. I ended up with this big bruise and a scab. I picked the scab off, but the bruise is still there. When I'm out in the sun, the area turns sort of bluish-purple, but otherwise, it stays red. Could I have actually messed up a bone? It hurt like crazy at first, but the pain has settled down now. I’ve been applying some cream I found twice a day for almost a month, and the bruise seems to be shrinking a little bit. My question is, has anyone else dealt with something like this? Will this ever actually go away? When I'm indoors, it looks red, but once I step outside into the sunlight, it turns blue. How do I fix this? Should I go see a dermatologist? I really need some help here. Please don't make fun of me; this is a big deal to me. Thanks in advance, and I'll be looking forward to your replies.

Look, if your hand isn't swollen—like, twice the size of the other one—you probably didn't break anything. It might just be some muscle inflammation... or if there's a scab involved, things could be getting a little infected. Personally, I’d just stick with some Neosporin; I’m the type who avoids the doctor at all costs. But, honestly, maybe just swing by an urgent care or your primary physician... let them take a look and tell you it's nothing serious and that you can just keep using cream...

How long do you think it’ll take to clear?

I honestly don't know why you felt the need to pick at that scab. They’re supposed to fall off on their own—once they do, you're usually left with healthy skin underneath. A scab is actually a good sign; it means the wound is finally drying out... so, do you have another one forming?

I just have this red tint. But when the sun hits it, it turns super blue

Then you probably shouldn't take her out in the sun. Her skin is thinner and more sensitive there—it looks like some kind of reaction... If it starts shrinking, that's great. Just stick to a good moisturizer; definitely stay away from any steroid creams unless your doctor specifically tells you otherwise.

If this doesn't clear up by the fall, I'm heading straight to the doctor. I've had this lump for about 7 or 8 months now. It's been way too long.

So, what exactly do those corticosteroids actually do?

Look, don't mess around with this. It's been going on too long, and there's a real chance the tissue is inflamed or even infected.
Get to a doctor ASAP to find out what's actually happening. They'll get you some meds and you can put this behind you. Better to deal with it now than wait.
Don't go playing games with injuries.

The discoloration finally cleared up recently, after almost 11 months. Now, all I've got left are white scars.
I can still feel some tightness in my finger joints, though I've noticed the bone density seems to have increased significantly... probably expecting more swelling.😁

My finger joints still feel pretty tight, too, and I've noticed the bones themselves seem to have thickened out... I guess they're still healing, hopefully.😁

Did you also deal with a hematoma from the impact, or was it something else?

The impact alone split my skin open. My fingers were completely useless—couldn't even bend them because of the pain, which was my own damn fault. 😬
Once things finally scabbed over and fell off, I was left with these annoying fatty lumps that took forever to clear up.
Everything is healed now, though. For the most part, there aren't any lasting issues. 🙂

Except for the fact that my hands are now solid enough to punch through a brick wall. 😬 (Just kidding, obviously.)

Once everything had mostly healed and the scabs finally fell off, these little fatty lumps showed up, and it took forever for them to clear out.
Now, everything has healed up nicely and I’m pretty much back to normal 🙂

Aside from having hands hard enough to punch through a wall 😬 (just kidding, obviously)

How long did it take for those lumps to go away? Did you put any cream on it? Did you end up seeing a doctor? I hit a wall once too, but I just ended up with scabs; my fingers didn't hurt as much—I could move them fine, they were just tender to the touch. How long did it take for your lumps to heal up?

Look, Hitler (seriously, what kind of username is that?), you should probably just head to a doctor and have someone take a look at your hand. It looks pretty weak from here, if I'm being honest. At least getting a medical checkup isn't too much to ask.

As for the scabs, don't go picking at them unless you’re actively looking to deal with scars or an infection. Also, keep that new skin out of the sun for a bit. Honestly, your handle says everything I need to know about how you treat your own body: pathetic.

Look, just go see a doctor and let them handle it. Honestly, that’s the only real way to deal with this stuff. I know you're freaking out, I really do, but think about it—what if it actually is something serious? If you catch it now, you can fix it, but if you wait... man, then you might be looking at something you can't undo...

I had a similar thing happen after a few heavy hits... my hand swelled up, but I didn't bother seeing a doctor.
I just applied some St. John's Wort oil for a couple of days.
Honestly, go get checked out. I think I just got lucky.

@succorosso: You've never lost control or anything like that? It happened to me once. Now I’m worried I'll be paying the price for it when I'm older.
