Greetings. I’ve already started a thread about my laptop issues before, but here we go again—this thing hasn't even been with me for a full year. It's an HP Pavilion dv7 running Windows 7. Yesterday, I went to check My Computer and realized the C: drive was there, but the D: drive where all my files are stored has completely vanished. It seems to pop back up momentarily, but then after a quick restart, it disappears again...

It's an HP Pavilion dv7 running Windows 7. Yesterday, I went to check My Computer and realized the D drive—where I keep all my files—was just gone. It only shows the main C drive. I try to bring the partition back, but as soon as I restart, it vanishes again.

Try heading into Disk Management. If you see the partition listed there, try manually changing the drive letter (switch it from D to something like E).
That might do the trick. 🙂

My machine is an HP Pavilion dv7 running Windows 7. Yesterday, I checked "My Computer" and noticed that only the main C: drive was visible; the D: drive where I keep all my files had vanished. It seems to reappear momentarily after a restart, only to disappear again immediately.

Go to Start, type "Disk Management" into the search field, and hit enter. Once that opens, select "Create and format hard disk partitions." Check to see if the D: partition shows up there. If it does, right-click on it and select "Format."

NOOOOOOO... TNG, he just doesn't want to wipe everything on his D: drive; he actually wants to be able to access his own data...

🤦

He’s insisting that the D: drive was never even formatted.

It’s probably a good thing he hasn't checked back on the forum since that post last night (at least not from his usual login location).

- Did someone try to take the hardware apart? (Could be a loose connection).
- Run a health check on the drive using something like CrystalDiskInfo or HD Tune.
