I read somewhere that Yasmin is the only pill that doesn't cause water retention or bloating... I guess, is that actually true, or are there others out there?

Honestly, hanging out with Triquilar didn't make me gain any weight or give me more cellulite at all! 🤷
I guess it just depends on the person, everyone reacts differently to stuff like that.

Well, from what I understand, most of these newer low-dose contraceptives—things like Yasmin, Yaz, or Logest—tend to have fewer side effects overall, including that whole weight gain issue, mostly because they use a much lower dose of hormones compared to the older stuff.

Fine, thanks. 😁

Well, I gained about five pounds in just ten days when I first started taking them... and honestly, that was my only issue. It’s unusual for me since I usually struggle to put on weight, and my scale hasn't budged in years...

Hi, I'm 15—almost 16. I've been sexually active for a little while now, and I have a gynecologist appointment coming up in a few days. I was wondering which birth control pills might be best for me if my goal is to gain some weight? I tend to lose weight easily—I'm quite thin—and I’d also like to see some breast development, since my lack of weight makes my curves a bit lacking. Naturally, I need them to work as contraception, too. 🙂 thanks

Your doctor will be the one to tell you, but honestly, I think hunting for a specific brand is just kind of silly 🤷
They’ll probably have you go get some blood work done, and once those results are in and you’ve had a good chat, you’ll figure it all out together

Yaz...
Look, when I first started taking them, I spent way too much time scouring various forums. I saw all kinds of horror stories from women who definitely gained weight on Yaz—so, yeah. The packaging can claim whatever it wants about efficacy, but if your body decides to have its own "policy," it’s going to follow that instead of what’s printed on the box.

It's the same deal with the libido claims. They say Yaz shouldn't kill your sex drive because the hormone dose is lower, yet I still ran into plenty of women complaining about that exact issue while on Yaz...

Everything just depends on your specific biology.

The whole point of these forums is that, I suppose, different women react quite differently to specific hormonal compositions—some might find Yasmin works fine, while others find they really ought to be on Logest instead. You see, these two types of birth control utilize different hormonal blends, so if Yasmin isn't sitting right with your system, Logest might actually be the better fit, and vice versa. It’s not just about weight gain, either; I suspect that logic applies to almost all those pesky side effects we deal with.

So, I had my first gynecologist appointment today—everything went smoothly enough, I suppose. He prescribed some vaginal tablets for a minor inflammation, then asked if I wanted to start birth control to regulate my cycle. But right after writing the prescription for the tablets, he mentioned he wouldn't be adding any other medications just yet—which implies he didn't actually write the script for the pills. Why though? Could the inflammation interfere with how the hormones work, or is he just being forgetful? Or perhaps there’s a third reason I'm not seeing?

It’s probably easy enough to forget, honestly, and you can't just go out and grab them right away either; you really have to go through the whole process of getting bloodwork done first to make sure everything is looking okay. I suppose you could take a referral for lab work to your primary care physician, and once those results come back, you can head over to the gynecologist and let them know you're interested in starting birth control.

So, I’ve been taking Diane—they were working for me, honestly—and then I switched over to Logest, which just isn't doing it for me at all. Does this mean Yasmin would have been a better fit? Like, do they actually share the same hormone profile as Diane??? 🤷

Hey, has anyone here bought pills abroad (specifically Yasmin, to be clear)? My break week and the start of my next pack happen to line up right when I'm traveling to another country, so I'm a little worried.
Also, is it actually true you can buy them every 20 days?

I honestly think you can just pick them up there—I know plenty of folks who head over to Canada just because the prices are way more reasonable.

Does anyone happen to know—maybe hlapichka does—roughly what Logest tablets go for in Canada? I’m planning a trip up toward Buffalo soon, so if they really are cheaper there...

Yeah, right, that’s exactly what my gynecologist tried to convince me too... I took Yasmin for six months and I am never letting that stuff back into my body! Personally, I didn't gain weight, but I dealt with plenty of other issues—I'd call them problems rather than just "side effects." Even though my doctor kept insisting none of it was caused by the pills, my intuition proved to be much more reliable than her medical degree. 😉I’m not trying to scare anyone here—everyone reacts differently—but my own experience was more than enough to ensure I never touch another pill (especially not Yasmin) ever again!

Just to jump in... I think it all comes down to how individual bodies react to certain pills. But following the instructions is huge—things like not smoking or drinking alcohol, which most people find impossible to give up. I don't smoke, and I maybe have a glass every six months or so. I've been on Yasmin for five years now; haven't gained weight, no side effects, skin is clear. Just cellulite, but that’s pretty standard with any birth control if you aren't hitting the gym regularly enough. 🙂
So, it really depends...

Well, if I managed to ease anyone's mind...🙂

So, did you ever try anything else besides Yasmin?
I’ve been on Logest, Yasmin, and Diane, and, if I'm being honest, they all seemed perfectly fine to me 🙏
But since I deal with some minor issues regarding PCOS, my doctor over at Mount Sinai—who is absolutely wonderful, by the way—recommended Yasmin, so that's what I'm currently using.

@Benjamin Taylor4; yeah, Yasmin is pretty similar to Diane, though it seems to have a lower hormone dosage (I'm not entirely sure if the composition is identical, but I know both Diane and Yasmin are typically prescribed for PCOS and acne issues, whereas Logest doesn't really touch those, so they likely share the same hormone). As for how much they cost at the pharmacy, I'm afraid I wouldn't know.

Give me a break. I'm heading to a country where our names and surnames with all these accents won't even look "local"—specifically Germany—so it’ll be dead obvious that I'm just some foreigner. 🤷

I’ve always found that I could just pick up two boxes at once whenever I was heading down to the coast—or even if I wasn't, really—so, I suppose if they turn you away at the pharmacy, you might just want to try another one, and then maybe another, until someone actually gives them to you, because, honestly, they really ought to.
