Has anyone actually died from sleeping naked? Seriously.
I’ve been running a fever for two weeks straight, and I had to go get a new checkup at the clinic. My mom is convinced it's because I sleep naked—claims I'm freezing myself every night and blah blah blah.
So what, I should just start wearing pajamas to bed?
I hate sleeping in clothes. Everything feels too bulky, too cramped, whatever. In the winter, I’d much rather bury myself under a mountain of blankets than deal with pajamas—unless I’m so sick that my skin actually hurts.
And I honestly don't see the issue here.
Plus, she keeps insisting I have a cold and that's why I have a fever, but I don't have a runny nose, I'm not coughing, nothing.

I’m being dead serious here and nobody is giving me an answer.
Also, should the temperature under my tongue be the same as under my armpit?

Everyone seems obsessed with whether "naked" means you're sleeping without underwear or what! 🙂

Look, it might actually be the temperature swings in your room... I used to get sick all the time because I'd feel so hot when I first climbed into bed, but then the room would get freezing by 3 AM and I'd wake up shivering. Maybe try cooling the room down as much as possible before you hit the sack... if it still feels weirdly uncomfortable to sleep without pajamas after that, then just put some on...

I always sleep naked, and I’ve never once come down with a cold because of it.
The only way I actually get sick is if I walk around barefoot on a cold floor or grab something icy to drink.

So how am I supposed to cool down my room? Should I just bite the bullet and buy an AC unit? 🙂
It’s not even cold in the morning. Even when I’m a total zombie and crash at 5 AM, the room isn't freezing.
Thanks for the replies, by the way.

Also, if I take my temperature under my arm or in my mouth—and I haven't eaten or drunk anything for a bit—do I need to see a doctor? All I know is some random poster in the waiting room at my clinic said a rectal reading is half a degree higher.

It doesn't feel cold in the morning. Even when I'm a total zombie and crash at 5 AM, my room still feels fine.

Thanks for the replies.
And regarding fever—does it matter if I take my temperature under my arm versus in my mouth (I haven't eaten or drunk anything for a while)? I only know from a CDC poster in my doctor's waiting room that rectal readings can be about half a degree higher.

Alice,

Usually, you shouldn't eat or drink for about 20 minutes before an oral test.

a/ Rectal temperatures are typically 0.3 to 0.6°C higher than oral or ear readings.

b/ Oral and ear temperatures are generally 0.3 to 0.6°C higher than an axillary (armpit) reading.

Everyone is different. For some people, 98.6°F is standard, while for others, 98.6°F might actually be a slight fever.

It’s been over an hour now 🙂
What does it even mean if the reading is the same under my arm and in my mouth? Is something wrong with my armpit, or my mouth, or is this just my normal baseline?

Also, my temperature is usually between 96.6 and 97.3, but for the last two weeks, it's been sitting between 98.1 and 99.5...

Honestly, she might have a point. The issue is that those standard foam mattresses tend to trap moisture, which actually makes them feel colder against your body. If you try to fix it by piling on a mountain of blankets, all that moisture just ends up soaking into the mattress, creating this endless cycle. You should look into non-foam mattresses, or at least throw a wool topper over your current one. Also, instead of heavy comforters, try using a wool blanket in the winter and a light cashmere one in the summer. It helps keep your body temperature steady and keeps the bed from feeling damp.

If you're trying to get an accurate reading by mouth, you really need to tuck that thermometer right under your tongue—sublingual style—and just let it sit there for maybe 3 or 4 minutes instead of just sucking on it like a lollipop.

Honestly, looking at those numbers, you're probably totally fine. I wouldn't even start sweating unless you start feeling actual symptoms alongside that tiny little bump in temperature.

Oh, and almost forgot... any chance you accidentally knocked someone up while sleeping naked? Because that would definitely explain why your temp is acting up...😁

I had a nasty UTI... knocked back two whole rounds of antibiotics and I'm feeling fine now 🙂 at least, hopefully 😁

Did anyone actually bother to tell you that underwear was the issue? 😁
