How to categorize athletes?

Hey everyone!

I’m looking into enrolling at the Department of Kinesiology, but I’ve got this nagging worry about how athletes get "categorized" for academic purposes.
Here’s the deal: I currently play handball and have a contract with a pro team in the top-tier US league. I was wondering if anyone here has dealt with this before or knows how the system works? Specifically, I'm trying to figure out which category I’d fall under (I, II, III, IV, V, or VI). Any insight would be huge!
