So, my cousin and I just inherited some property. It’s split up a bit unevenly—I ended up with assets worth about $60,000 and he got the portion valued at $90,000
We have to shell out $2,000 for the lawyer, and the deal we made was that we’d both cover our share based on the value of what we actually walked away with.
The problem is, we're stuck. We can't figure out the math on how much each of us should chip in toward that legal fee.
Anyone here savvy with this kind of thing?

Now we're sitting here stuck because nobody can figure out the math on how much each of us should actually pay.
Anyone here actually know how to calculate this?

Yeah, I do.

Just a heads up:
The post includes a description, a statement of fact, and a question.
I'm just answering the question.

We have to pay the lawyer $2,000 total, and we agreed that we’d both chip in based on how much value we actually walked away with
But now we're totally stuck... nobody knows the math for how to split it fairly
Anyone here actually know how to calculate this?

Did you even finish middle school? And is this guy actually related to you?

Honestly, I think your cousin should cover the whole thing. He totally played you and walked away with 50% more than he should have...
Otherwise, just pay $800, let him handle the other $1,200, and call it even. There's really no point in trying to explain middle school math to him at this stage. You can get to the answer a dozen different ways, but honestly? Neither of you actually cares about the formulas or the math... it’s all about the cash. So, let's just talk his language: he pocketed 50% extra, so he should shoulder 50% more of the cost. That's an explanation he might actually understand...

Whatever, man. Who’s going to remember the formula anyway? I finished middle school back in 1941.

The split is 40% for you and 60% for him on that cash you pulled in.

So, out of 2000, your 40% comes out to 800, which leaves him with 1200 for his 60%...
That rabbit gave you those numbers, but there's your breakdown if you need it...
