Has anyone ever heard of this international "Gold Standard" award? Apparently, it’s handed out by this magazine called Current Events, which is owned by International Trade Publications, Inc. based out of Washington, D.C. They supposedly give it to restaurants, hotels, retail shops, and industrial players—you know, all sorts of businesses. To be honest, I’ve never even heard of them until now! But get this—I run a little service-based business, and I just got a letter from this outfit in Washington, D.C., claiming they’re awarding *me* this honor. They’re actually inviting me to an awards ceremony in D.C.! Here’s the catch, though... they want me to foot the bill for my hotel stay, some promotional materials, getting my company featured in their magazine, and all that jazz. It feels a little fishy to me, honestly—like they’re just looking for an excuse to squeeze some cash out of me!

Read the fine print on the back—that prize actually costs $3,500.00😁

For that kind of money, you might as well go grab an Oscar—don't be a fool.

Thanks for the heads-up!
You hit the nail on the head there. It says $4,200, and yeah, that actually includes the hotel stay during the awards ceremony itself.
So, I figured—being the smart guy I am—I’d just ask if I could skip the trip because of work and have them just ship the prize via FedEx or something similar.
And get this... they told me sure, we can do that, but it'll cost an extra $2,400.
It makes me wonder... is this something they do with tons of companies over here in the States, basically just a sneaky way to rake in extra cash?
Or maybe not? But hey, if you want the trophy, I guess you gotta pay the piper.
