Hey there!

So, my husband and I have our computers hooked up to the same router via Ethernet.
Every time his PC is running and I power mine on—just hitting the actual power button on the tower, not the strip—his internet drops out for maybe a minute or two.
I tried searching for a fix online, but I can't find anything that actually matches what's happening here.

Does anyone have any clue how to fix this? Maybe there's some setting somewhere that could handle it??

Is every single PC supposed to have its own dedicated cable going to the router?

And seriously, how can you even click a button on a computer if the damn thing is turned OFF?

Could we be looking at an IP address conflict here?
Since everything is hardwired anyway—so I'm guessing nothing is jumping on and off the network constantly—it might be smarter to just assign static IPs to the main computers. Maybe pick some higher-range addresses? That way, we leave plenty of room in the DHCP pool for random stuff like phones to pop up and down without any drama...

Yeah, everyone’s got their own dedicated cable.
There's the button on the power supply—you know, power and reset. When I actually hit power to boot the thing up, that's when his internet just dies.

We were using Wi-Fi before, back when we had that older router. We actually dealt with IP conflicts then, and I was the one fixing them. I guess we can try his suggestion and I'll let you know if it actually does anything.
