So, here’s the deal. I wanted to do a clean reinstall of macOS—I’ve done this plenty of times before without any drama—so I wiped my drives, kicked off the installation, and boom: right in the middle of the process, an error pops up saying some files are missing. I killed the install and tried using a different disc, but now I can’t even get to the installer. Every time I boot up, I just get hit with that "BOOTMGR is missing..." error message. It feels like I’m stuck between a broken installer and a PC that won't even start. I’m leaning towards thinking it might be a hardware issue with the drive, but I honestly don't know. If anyone actually knows how to fix this, I’d appreciate the help. Thanks.

How have you got your boot order set up in the BIOS? Is the optical drive—the one you're using to read the CD/DVD—set as the primary device?

I mean, what was George Sanders37 even talking about? You could just go into the BIOS and set it to boot from the CD drive, or honestly, just mash a key during startup to bring up the boot menu so you can pick what you want... on my machine, it’s usually F9, and then this little menu pops up where you can just select the CD drive, the hard drive, a USB stick, whatever you need...

It’s also possible that your optical drive (CD or DVD) just isn't reading discs very well anymore. Maybe try testing it with a different one.

I’ve got everything set up correctly—tried it with three different discs, including this one which works perfectly fine.

It sounds like the issue might just be coming down to your optical drive. You could try picking up a different one—or honestly, it’s probably easier to just whip up a bootable USB using a tool like Rufus.

Larry Ortiz5 said:Looks like the issue is just your optical drive acting up. Grab a new one or just burn a bootable USB using something like Rufus.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot and let you know how it goes.

EDIT: @Osmi Thanks a ton—managed to get macOS installed! 😁
