I picked up an Apple Studio Display a few days ago, and honestly, I’m having a hard time getting used to it.

The backlight bleed is driving me crazy—it looks like this weird hazy smoke effect. Lowering the brightness or contrast doesn't even touch it. It’s especially bad when the screen is dark or showing pure black, and if I look at it from any angle, it gets even worse.

Is this just how all IPS panels behave, or did I somehow end up with a defective unit?

For example:

,... that is quite simply how it works... did you perhaps fail to inspect it thoroughly before completing the purchase?

To feels way over the top to me—I mean, even if you were sitting in a pitch-black room and dealing with those crappy IPS panels that make blacks look like washed-out gray, this is just straight-up grotesque. You should probably flip through this review; they break down a ton of the settings, so maybe try messing around with the controls yourself: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm

Honestly? I’d just return it.
