Jackie offers a deeply moving and intensely personal look at one of the most profound and heartbreaking chapters in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). I feel the film succeeds by immersing us directly into her private reality in those heavy days right after her husband was assassinated. While she was always celebrated for such incredible grace and composure, this movie provides more of a psychological deep dive into the First Lady as she fights to preserve her husband’s memory and the "Camelot" era they had built together.

Eschewing standard biopic form at every turn, this brilliantly constructed, diamond-hard character study observes the exhausted, conflicted Jackie as she attempts to disentangle her own perspective, her own legacy, and, perhaps hardest of all, her own grief from a tragedy shared by millions.
It is both the Oscar bait drama we thought it would be and yet fuller, richer due to Larrain's direction and Portman's vivid, unforgettable performance.
Eclipsing Her work in Black Swan, Portman flutters like a sail in a brisk wind. She is scattered, tense, wrecked and compellingly defiant in the face of those who would have her act a certain way.
