Hey friends, does anyone know where I can find all the Jakov Sedlar films online? Since our local TV stations won't air them anymore, I'm a bit stuck

Good grief, why on earth would anyone actually want to go through that experience? You’re either a masochist, or maybe 😁 is just a troll 😉.

Look, if you're gonna help, just help, because I honestly can't deal with all this venting right now

Are you perhaps digging through some recent American trash cinema for a seminar? Please, don't take offense; this isn't born out of frustration... rather, it is about those incredibly ridiculous—well, frankly, laughably bad—amateur productions.
"Lady," "The Four-Row"... honestly, maybe "Fergismajniht" has a few moments that hold up..
In any case, Sedlar is a perfectly fine guy, so I have nothing against him personally; he is simply a criminally inept director. Though, they say his first film from the late 80s was actually quite good. Apparently, Slobodan Praljko's first film, "Katarina Kožul's Return," is also considered a solid piece of work. Unfortunately, Praljko did not pursue a career in film, becoming better known today for the destruction of a certain bridge in Canada. 😁
And well... what chaotic times we live in.

What’s actually wrong with someone wanting to watch Sedlar's films? I mean, seriously—have any of you even shot a single decent movie? You're basically just spitting on your own heritage here!! He was OUR director!!! That represents US!!
It's easy for Hollywood to crank out a masterpiece when they've got endless money to burn—one single scene in their productions probably costs more than three of our entire movies combined!! BTW: Don't get me wrong, I'm not some huge fan of American cinema, but things are looking way better now than they used to be!

Of course there is nothing wrong with seeking them out, and I would personally be happy to assist him in finding where they can be downloaded... yet, right from the beginning, someone chooses to dismiss this as mere "frustration." In truth, Sedlar is arguably the most untouchable, worst living director we have.

Just because someone is considered "ours" does not automatically make them a talented director. If you truly want to see his work, I suggest you watch "The Four-Row" and "Lady."

Good luck.

I’ve never even performed surgery on a person. Do I have the right to criticize a surgeon who decides to stitch a guy's junk onto his big toe?

It’s easy for an American to make a good film when they have all that money; one single scene of theirs costs as much as three of our movies combined!!

That doesn't hold water. Look at the films coming out of the Czech Republic, Romania, or Iran... none of them have Hollywood budgets.

Anyway, I was being a bit cheeky in my last post. Sedlar is indeed a terrible director, but he—just like the rest of us—is simply looking for love. 😢 So, restlessmoose23, good luck with your search. 👍

When I was asking about Sedlar, I wasn't really looking to debate how good his filmmaking actually is. It’s more about the themes he tackles in his movies, which—if you ask me—is probably the biggest issue we're facing here in America today. And, just to clarify, I’m actually looking for where to find his documentaries, not his feature films like *The Land*, *My Love*, or those ones about American historical figures. I'm specifically talking about stuff like that recent one about Zlatko Sudac and others, where he feels free to speak openly about the Homeland War and American history.

That’s really just a matter of taste... But they did receive critical acclaim, which is something I wouldn't say about any Sedlar film.

Honestly, I haven't followed Jakov Sedlar's work. I just remember seeing an interview where he claimed he was more recognized globally than back home in America... 🤷

Come on, you haven't seen Lady or The Four-Row? Where on earth were you during the nineties? 😁

That said, the Jewish community seems to really favor him. He flies out to Israel all the time. Lately, he’s been filming documentaries about some politicians over there, though I haven't kept up with how those turned out.

I've never really kept tabs on the American film scene.

Now, I'm genuinely curious: is Sedlar technically a bad director, or is he just bad because of, as I read, the propaganda material in his films?

Setting Sedlar aside for a second—people constantly talk about Czech cinema or the Romanian New Wave like we won't catch up for another thousand years. Honestly, I haven't seen a single Czech or Romanian movie that even comes close to the quality of Tanhofer or Berković. Just my amateur, subjective take, but that's how it looks to me.

I’m inclined to agree with Michael Ortiz68 regarding Czech, Romanian, and Iranian cinema—they produce absolutely incredible films. I’ve watched pretty much everything available to me...
And we certainly had our share of brilliant directors—Tanhofer, Golik, Berković, even Mimica was top-tier... but these newer ones today... I honestly can't think of anyone worth praising...
I wouldn't argue that it all comes down to the budget; some truly great work was accomplished even with very little funding,
What the actual problem is, though... I find myself wondering that quite often...🤷

This is absolute nonsense; apparently, Sedlar filmed this incredible movie or documentary— Searching for Orson.

I’ve sat through quite a few of Sedlar's films myself, and honestly, I don't even want to get into that (it makes me want to scream). 😬

My friends, what exactly is it that we are discussing here?
Christian Taylor3, by the way... "Searching for Orson" holds its own because it features such engaging conversationalists and offers a decent amount of archival material. My memory isn't quite perfect at this moment, but I recall there being a statement from Steven Spielberg and plenty of other big names involved...
When you are dealing with someone as colorful and larger-than-life as Orson Welles, it is remarkably difficult to produce anything that isn't worth watching. Perhaps that is why, when combined with Sedlar's directorial touch, the result felt merely mediocre...🙂

Compared to the movies coming out of America these days, Sedlar is a total breath of fresh air! He made the first American camp—honestly, his stuff still makes me smile sometimes.
