I’m thinking about picking up some white goods on a GoCard payment plan for $2000 over 36 months. I’m also planning to take out a personal loan for $7,000 from JPMorgan Chase pretty soon. Does anyone know if buying this on credit will mess with my ability to get that loan approved? Is there any actual connection between the two?
Thanks in advance

I’m pretty sure Wells Fargo tracks those installment purchases you make on a credit card too. Though, honestly, I have no clue how much weight that actually carries when it comes to those tiny, unplanned personal loans.

You’re good!
They don't affect each other at all.

I did basically the same thing but in reverse—grabbed the personal loan first, then used the CareCredit for payments and cash advances.

so, i've got a debit card and a checking account with an overdraft limit... looking for some extra cash, wondering if it's better to dip into the overdraft or just hit the ATM with the debit card...

Overdrafting is essentially a cheap way to be reckless—provided you have a premium checking account. With a GoCardless account, however, you’re just getting hit with cash withdrawal fees and an annual interest rate on whatever credit you use

I don't have the exact breakdown for those two cards sitting in front of me, but there's an old rule of thumb I always live by—don't go pulling cash out with a credit card unless you're absolutely in a bind.

Wrong! (right now 😁)
There’s a fee for using the ATM, sure, but since the interest rate is sitting at 5% until July 12th, you’re actually better off just grabbing the cash now

But there's a 3.5% fee—meaning $58 (on an amount of $1667) plus interest
. I’m sticking to my guns: the overdraft is still the cheaper option
.

3.5%😲

I honestly thought it was lower than that. I mean, since I don't exactly go on shopping sprees using credit cards, I was mostly just focusing on the interest rates.

Honestly, with those kinds of fees, you really shouldn't even think about using a credit card to pull out cash—especially at some random ATM that isn't yours. And doing that while traveling abroad? That’s just asking for trouble.

I'm also curious about this—if I were to withdraw a certain amount of cash using my Mastercard, what would the interest rate look like?

Hey there!
I recently received an offer in the mail from JPMorgan Chase for a Gold Card, so I went ahead and mailed back my signed application a few days ago. I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences with this—I guess I'm just curious about how long it usually takes for the card to actually arrive, and if I remember correctly, does it get delivered straight to my house? Thanks so much.

I had mine show up at my house a few days ago... just a heads-up, once yours arrives, you'll need to go ahead and get it activated right away.

So, my card finally showed up today (Monday, Dec 3rd). I have to say, I’m actually pretty surprised by how fast JPMorgan Chase handled everything. I mailed off my signed authorization back on November 28th, and somehow, less than a week later, the card was already sitting right there in my mailbox. Honestly, major props to them!
Now, I have a quick question for the group—I’m heading out on a trip to the USA soon, and I was wondering if anyone knows if I'll be able to use this card over there without running into any issues?

So, basically, you're looking at a Mastercard... which means wherever you see that little logo, you can just 👍...

Just make sure you don't forget to activate it first 😉

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to credit cards and rarely even use them, but now everyone is pushing me to ditch my Mastercard and get a Go Card instead. Is there actually any truth to that, or is it even worth it?

Go! It’s basically just another Mastercard

With a standard credit card, everything you swipe for gets billed all at once on your statement date
meaning zero interest hits you
unless, of course, you tell the cashier at Target that you want to split the payment into installments

But with Go!, they take every single purchase and break it down into percentages or monthly chunks
Now, here’s the kicker... an automatic withdrawal will pull that percentage or installment from your account every month, BUT you're getting hit with interest over that extended period... if you actually want to pay the whole thing off upfront to avoid that, you have to be proactive and manually settle the balance yourself

I actually carry both types... I mostly stick to my regular credit card for everything 😁 ... unless I get a little carried away with my shopping
... then I'll reach for the Go! card.

So you're saying if I use Go! when paying, I can either do installments or just settle the whole thing at once?
(If that's the case, I don't see why I'd even bother with a Mastercard... haven't I already mentioned I'm a total disaster with plastic? 🤷 )

With a standard ECMC card, you can secure a cash loan without needing any guarantors or extra collateral—up to *$13333 depending on your credit score.
That’s exactly why an ECMC card is worth having 😉 (I personally keep one just in case—you never know when you might suddenly need a little extra liquidity).
