Honestly, who else could it be? Only Robert De Niro—taking home that lifetime achievement award alongside Bruce Springsteen and a few others—could pull this off. He’s quite simply the greatest actor out there...

I mean, who can even compete with him?...

Al Pacino? No chance. He's stuck in De Niro's shadow and he's just making a bad movie today...

And Jack Nicholson—what has that guy even done this decade? Everything has been a miss. He's lost his edge. He really needs to take a page out of De Niro's book and look at those awards...

Then there's Dustin Hoffman—overrated if you ask me. Just like the other two, he hasn't delivered anything lately...

De Niro is the best to ever do it, and he just proved once again what an absolute legend he is...

It’s obvious he’s your favorite actor😁 but personally, I think Jack Nicholson is better. Sure, he’s slowed down lately, but De Niro is great too. For some reason, Nicholson's films just resonate more with me. No hard feelings.🙂

Who could possibly compete with him?

Al Pacino doesn't stand a chance; he's stuck in De Niro's shadow and keeps making bad movies today.

What has Jack Nicholson even accomplished this decade? It’s been nothing but subpar work lately. He really needs to look at De Niro and those Oscars he's picked up.

Dustin Hoffman is an overrated actor; much like those two mentioned above, he hasn't actually achieved anything significant.

Robert De Niro remains the premier actor, a fact he has once again proven. What a titan.

Is Al Pacino living in De Niro's shadow?
Honestly, you should probably just sit down and watch some more movies. To claim that Al Pacino lives in the shadow of Robert De Niro requires either profound ignorance or someone who thinks Ocean's 13 is the extent of Pacino's filmography. You seem to fall into both categories. 😉
Jack has already given us The Departed this decade. That should be more than enough for an actor whose most iconic roles were delivered thirty years ago. Or do you really believe an actor needs an Oscar for every single film to remain respected?
In what ways is Hoffman overrated?

Honestly, I think De Niro should take a page out of Nicholson's book this decade. Better to just sit it out than start making a bad movie today.

He might be making a bad movie today, but back in the '70s, he was a cornerstone of New Hollywood. Characters like Bobby, Michael Corleone, Lion, Serpico, or Sonny Wortzik are absolute icons of that era. The guy is a legend.
The 90s gave us five more absolute masterclasses in acting.

coppergardener13 said:What has Jack Nicholson even done this decade? Honestly, everything feels like a step backward. It’s like he's lost that spark. He really needs to look at how Robert De Niro is operating and take a page out of his book regarding those awards.

Even if he had decided to pivot to stripping at sixty, Jack Nicholson’s career still speaks for itself. The man is an absolute legend.

If classics like *The Graduate*, *Midnight Cowboy*, *Straw Dogs*, *Little Big Man*, *Lenny*, *All the President's Men*, *Marathon Man*, *Papillon*, *Kramer vs. Kramer*, and *Rain Man* don't count for you, then fine. I guess we're just looking at things differently.🤷

Good grief, the moment you started praising De Niro and claiming Nicholson was playing catch-up with his trophy count, you missed the mark—don't you realize Nicholson actually has twice as many awards as De Niro?

Let’s get real: if any of these guys owned a decade, it was Nicholson, About Schmidt(what a transformation, 🙏), The Departed, The Bucket List, plus solid turns in Pledge and Something's Gotta Give

And since we’re talking eras, I’d argue Nicholson and Pacino were at their absolute peak during the best decade of all, the '70s—though personally, I think Nicholson had the edge back then... and honestly, he was often bigger than the movies themselves...

Pacino definitely isn't living in De Niro's shadow; the two of them just constantly get lumped together because they both dominated the crime genre, which is so popular that kids end up obsessing over them as idols...

But I have to admit, De Niro has been making a bad movie today (okay, maybe not *that* bad) lately; in fact, his last truly great performance was in Heat alongside Pacino, but if we're talking about which of the remaining legends is still putting in the work, I'm putting my money on Nicholson...

Hoffman—no comment.

So much nonsense....

If we’re judging purely by award-winning films, I don't think there's anyone who has topped De Niro in this decade, or even the last one. Not to mention he hasn't really tackled a decent drama lately, just sort of coasting through comedies... Look, I have nothing against him—I love the guy—but Jack has some seriously heavy-hitting films under his belt from the last decade. As for De Niro's work behind the camera, it's been met with anything but enthusiasm over the years...

Jack absolutely has massive films from the last decade, and they were made with top-tier directors. Sure, Pacino might have slipped a bit, but he still manages to pull off at least two or three strong ones. And Hoffman? He’s a living legend, not some overrated actor. He’s got several powerhouse performances from the last decade as well.

Ever since De Niro stopped working with Scorsese, I'll go as far as to say he's gone downhill. He doesn't have a single title that stands out, unless you count the dramas like Casino and Heat.

It looks like this is going to be another one of those threads where someone drops a little bait just to stir the pot and then disappears.

Let’s keep this momentum going, because if there is any argument to be made for who truly owned this decade, it’s Jack Nicholson. About SchmidtWhat an absolute transformation.🙏), The Departed, The Bucket ListI mean, you really can't deny that we've seen some incredibly solid achievements, like... Something's Gotta Give i Something's Gotta Give

If we’re going to stretch this out and talk about entire decades, I’ll go on record right now: Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino were at their absolute peak during the 1970s. It was their era, plain and simple. But if I really have to pick a winner between the two during that stretch, I’d argue Nicholson takes the edge. Honestly, back then, his presence was so massive he practically overshadowed the movies themselves.

Al Pacino is absolutely not living in De Niro's shadow. People constantly try to pit the two of them against each other simply because they both dominated that gritty crime genre, which is a massive favorite for fans—and honestly, it’s usually just young kids getting swept up in the hype and obsessing over their idols.

I have to admit, De Niro has been making a bad movie today—well, maybe not quite that bad, but certainly underwhelming—quite frequently lately. If we’re being honest, his last truly stellar performance was in Heat alongside Pacino, which was a masterclass. But if you want to talk about the remaining legends who are actually still putting in the work, I’d have to put Nicholson in that category.

Hoffman—I have absolutely nothing to say.

We’re on exactly the same page here. Honestly, I find it absolutely revolting to watch these legends being dragged through the mud just to give some newcomer a momentary boost.😢

And just what kind of awards has De Niro actually picked up in the last ten years? Absolutely none. This is basically a lifetime achievement nod for work he wrapped up 25 years ago!

Look, I only snapped back at him because he had the nerve to question what a Nicholson is even worth in terms of awards, but I have zero intention of putting down De Niro. He’s a phenomenal actor, even if his career has seen better days—and you hit the nail on the head regarding De Niro and Scorsese... total bullseye.

And get this: Chinatown - Roman Polanski
Let - Milosh Forman

That’s just two quick examples of absolute masterpieces directed by guys who aren't even American...

And how many more examples like that can you find? There are endless ones...

I wish he’d actually explain his take on Hoffman, so we could finally understand why he thinks he's overrated—which, of course, he isn't.

I'm not going anywhere

Let’s get this straight—De Niro is better than anyone else on this list, whether you like it or not. It’s just a fact.

As for Hoffman—the guy was great in *Rain Man* and *Kramer vs. Kramer*, sure, but everything else? He fell flat for me. Personally, I think he's overrated.

And Pacino—look, there's not much to say other than he’s always lived in De Niro's shadow.

Then there's Nicholson—I mean, come on, the guy constantly ends up in mediocre movies. There is absolutely no way he has twice the awards of De Niro; let's not kid ourselves. He isn't even in the same league as De Niro.

Also, it's total nonsense to claim De Niro only made hits when working with Scorsese—he had plenty of great films long after that.

Honestly, you probably should have just stayed away. A bit of advice for everyone else here: just ignore this, and the thread will die down on its own.

Goodnight.

So you’re still sticking to that nonsense about the awards...

Jack Nicholson http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000197/
is a Robert De Niro level talent with 3 Oscars under his belt, plus another 64 wins and 46 nominations.

Then there's Robert De Niro http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000134/
who has 2 Oscars and an additional 28 wins along with 34 nominations.

And honestly, this whole thing you're pulling with Hoffman doesn't count as an actual argument; maybe if you came up with something substantial for him, we could actually have a conversation...

Robert De Niro. He’s got 3 Oscars under his belt, plus another 64 wins and 46 nominations.

Robert De Niro Jack Nicholson
Jack Nicholson won 2 Oscars. He also holds 28 other wins and 34 nominations.

I ovo za Hoffmana ti nije nikakav argument, dok daš nekakav argument za njega, onda možemo razgovarati...

I agree with that comparison. It’s honestly silly to try and claim De Niro is better than Nicholson or Al Pacino. To me, De Niro is just an average actor, whereas those two are on a different level.🙏🙏🙏🙏If there are characters more iconic than Johnny from The Shining or Michael Corleone, then that actor deserves the win. All I know is that De Niro hasn't come anywhere close to creating a role like that.

I wouldn't dare single anyone out, especially not in a negative light. They are all absolute legends.
However, if I had to say one thing, it's that their older work consistently outshines their more recent films.
