Hey everyone.
First time posting here—sorry if this has already been covered, I just couldn't find a thread about it.
I’ve noticed this little bulge or thickening right under my right ribcage. It’s mostly noticeable when I’m sitting down and not wearing a bra. It kind of starts mid-chest and goes down to the bottom of the rib area—and from what I remember about anatomy, I think that’s where the liver sits.
I'm honestly not sure if it's actually my liver or just some extra fat, since I've put on maybe 20 or so pounds recently. I have a similar thing under my left ribs too, though it doesn't stick out nearly as much as the right side.
It doesn't really hurt, though I do get some stomach pain or discomfort around my belly button if I eat too much or eat too fast.
Anyway, I'm heading to see my doctor tomorrow to have them take a look, but until then, does anyone have any idea what else this could be?
thanks

I've noticed a slight swelling or thickening right under my right rib cage. It's only really noticeable when I'm sitting down without a bra. The swelling starts near the center of my chest and runs toward the end of the rib cage; from what I understand about anatomy, that's where the liver is located.
I honestly can't tell if it's actually my liver or just some extra fat, since I've put on about 20 pounds lately. I have a similar sensation under my left ribs too, though it isn't nearly as pronounced as the right side.
There’s no pain, though I do get some stomach aches and discomfort around my belly button if I overeat or eat too fast.
I'm heading to see my doctor tomorrow to get it checked out, but until then, does anyone have any idea what else this could be?

I once strained the muscle right above where the liver sits (I dropped the remote off the bed and was too lazy to actually get up, so I overextended myself reaching over the edge). Honestly, I didn't even realize I'd injured myself at first; I had to replay the whole moment in my head just to figure out how it happened. It hurt like hell, though—I couldn't sit up straight, I couldn't eat, I felt nauseous, and I had that exact same swelling under my ribs. I thought it was my liver too, but it turned out to be a strained muscle. I took some Advil and it cleared up in a day or two.
Ask for a referral for an internal medicine exam and an abdominal ultrasound.

Honestly, I think you’d probably feel way worse if it were your liver—I remember when mine was enlarged, and man, that pain was just intense

Get a referral for an internal medicine checkup and an abdominal ultrasound.

To me, it feels soft to the touch, almost like fat..
I asked my neighbor yesterday—she's a nurse, but she basically knows everything like a doctor—and she thinks it's just fat. She suggested I try losing a little weight and maybe it'll go away.
I get my full blood work done all the time and everything is always perfectly normal.

Nurses aren't exactly walking medical encyclopedias, you know? You really ought to go see a doctor and get an ultrasound—it might just show how much weight you've put on lately. Perhaps your metabolism has simply gone completely sideways?
