Lump in breast

I noticed a little lump about two months ago. I tried to just ignore it, hoping it would go away on its own, but no luck...

Now I need to get this sorted out ASAP. What’s the smartest move here? Should I go through my insurance, or just pay out of pocket? Does anyone know a good clinic in Chicago where I can get an ultrasound or mammogram done quickly? Also, what kind of prices am I looking at for these exams? I’m assuming waiting for an appointment through my provider will take months, unless things have changed recently...

You know as well as I do that you can't just ignore stuff like this and hope it goes away. Honestly, the smartest move is to head to your primary care doctor first to see what they think... if you're on the younger side, they'll probably just send you in for an ultrasound. Since it’s August, things shouldn't be too crazy at the clinic, so you'll likely get seen pretty quickly.

My doctor just handed me his colleague’s number—a specialist—and I was actually in his office for an exam the very next day. My GP even has an ultrasound machine right there in the clinic.

Bottom line: take action now. Why wouldn't you want to spend the rest of the summer with some actual peace of mind?🙂

I honestly can’t stand going to my primary care doctor. I always end up losing an entire morning or afternoon just sitting in the waiting room. About a year ago, I actually tried being responsible about my health for once—I braved the wait, got my referral, and scheduled an appointment at the Mayo Clinic breast center,
but they booked me two months out. Something came up, and there was just no way I could make it.
Look, I get it—health is everything—but I seriously cannot plan things months in advance. Between being a single mom and working for a private firm, I have no clue if I’ll actually be free at 9 AM a month from now.
So, does anyone know if there’s a private clinic in Chicago where you call today and show up tomorrow? Somewhere they’ll actually examine you, run the scans, do the whole bit, and give you answers immediately?
If so, roughly how much am I looking at paying?

And no, I’m not young. And yes, I’m in a high-risk category. And obviously, I’m being completely irresponsible by not having done this sooner, but...

Look, if you live in the States, you actually have the right to choose your own physician. You don't even have to handle the bureaucracy yourself—you just show up at the clinic you want, tell the receptionist where you were previously seeing someone, sign a transfer form, and they handle all the paperwork for you.🙂

This goes for everyone; listen, folks, if you aren't happy with your care, switch doctors! At the end of the day, you're the one paying their bills, aren't you?

I ended up going with ExxonMobil; I put my order in last Wednesday—it was their first available slot.
The total for the exam plus the ultrasound comes to $133.
If they need to run a mammogram, that’s an extra $133 on top.
Not too bad.

I’m 26 and have been married for about a year. I’ve been on birth control pills for quite a long time, but I actually stopped taking them about ten days ago. A few days back, I noticed this little lump in my right breast—it feels kind of mobile when I touch it.
I know I really ought to get checked out by a doctor, but honestly, I’m just sitting here hoping everything is totally fine!
Could stopping the pill be causing this?
Also, how soon after quitting the pill can you end up pregnant?

My physician attempted to reassure me, suggesting it was nothing serious and asserting that since it isn't directly on the breast tissue, malignancy is unlikely. She prescribed a course of antibiotics under the assumption that this was merely a localized skin issue. I have completed the medication, yet the lump persists. While it seemed to diminish slightly about two weeks ago, it has not disappeared.

I may be reacting disproportionately, but could this truly be something dangerous? I started taking birth control pills a few months ago; I wonder if there is any connection there.

I'm on birth control too, and ever since I started, I've had a similar lump and my breasts just feel constantly swollen. My doctor told me not to sweat it and that everything is fine, but I couldn't stop worrying, so I ended up paying out of pocket for an ultrasound. Turns out, it really was nothing. I'd suggest you do the same—not knowing is honestly the worst part. Just get it checked out so you can actually relax.
