macOS Sonoma update

So, I finally managed to pull off the upgrade to macOS Sonoma. My current build is:
version 22 H2 (OS build: 22621.521

Now, it's prompting me for Windows Update KB5017389 (the September 2022 Cumulative Update for macOS Sonoma for x64-based systems).

If I were to successfully install this, it would bump my OS build up to 22621.608.

The system found the update, downloaded it, started the installation process, and then—just like that—hit me with error code 0x800f0988.

I even tried being proactive and grabbed Windows Update KB5017389 directly from the Microsoft catalog to run a manual install, but no luck there either—it just gave me another "installation failed" message.

Does anyone happen to know what might be causing this headache? Has anyone else run into this specific wall, and if so, how did you get past it?

Why on earth would I block updates? It’s not like I want my computer to break even more than it already does—that seems counterproductive. My goal is to actually get this update installed, not to spend my time blocking future ones.

For my setup, it’s been sitting there for nearly a month offering that 21H2 version 22 H2 update for x64... but honestly, there's zero chance I'm triggering it myself. I'll just wait for them to push it out once they finally squash all the bugs. I'm in no rush. 😁

macOS updates are just a massive headache, end of story. Is your OS actually smoother or faster after an update? No, it’s usually the exact opposite. Aside from losing free disk space and potentially inviting a whole new set of bugs, you get absolutely nothing. That’s why people use update blockers. Honestly, Microsoft should have just built a way to do this natively instead of being such a pain.
