Another one from Lars von Trier.
It’s basically a spiritual successor to Dogville. Really solid stuff. It tackles racism and the whole "relativizing liberation" angle... hits hard.

Compared to the first in the trilogy, I think this one falls slightly short.
Still brilliant, though!
The sense of humor, the irony, the cynicism... it's all there.

Caught this morning while hanging out in Napa Valley, just as the final screening for the big hit of this year's Sundance Film Festival was about to kick off.

I don't know about you guys...

But I think Dogville is pure genius.
The themes are totally different this time around, but it’s delivered in that exact same style that really clicks with me.

Honestly, such a great movie.

So, I just caught this concert film, and honestly? It’s actually pretty good. There’s plenty of laughs, some genuine fun, and it actually gives you some interesting stuff to chew on. But hey, even if you strip all that away, at least it isn't a total snooze-fest for once... and in this day and age, I'll take that win. 😢

Listen, you guys just don't get the sheer entertainment value Lars provides. Personally, I think Manderlay actually edges out Dogville. The way Lars tackles racism—with such common sense and a sense of fun—is pure bliss. He’s probably the only director working today who can pivot into something that entertaining so effortlessly. For me, the absolute peak of the movie is that ending, where those clips from RL start flashing by and you begin filtering real-world racism through the lens of the film.. Boom. Just beautiful.

It’s simple, really. Nothing overcomplicated. That's my take. It's top-tier entertainment for all those wannabe intellectuals.😁
