Monitor issues

Hey there.

I picked up a PC from a buddy. Everything was running perfectly fine at his place, but about 20 minutes after I hooked it up at my house, the monitor stopped showing any kind of image. I used the exact same cables, too. The PC powers on without an issue, and the monitor shows a blue light, but there’s just no picture—it keeps cycling through "analog-digital, analog-digital, analog-digital" (it's a Samsung LED TV 24). If I unplug the cable from the PC, the monitor just says "check signal." I already tried testing it with a different monitor, but I'm getting the same result. Any ideas?

The fan’s spinning, the LEDs are glowing, and I can hear that classic "beep" when the PC boots up...

Did you get it seated right on the case?

What kind of connector are you running?

It’s the small blue one and the larger white one. I noticed that when I unplug the blue one, nothing really happens, but once I pull the white one, it just gives me a "check signal" error...

We really need to wait for Microsoft to confirm if that "white" coax cable is for the TV, and if the "blue" one is actually HDMI—and if it’s even a Samsung LED TV 24 we're dealing with, we might need to switch over to HDMI anyway.

Nah, it's just a standard Samsung monitor. The blue one is VGA and the white one is DVI... those are the only two inputs on the monitor.

Just try switching that setting from "analog" to "digital"—you don't need both at once, it’s one or the other. Also, if you guys were tossing that PC around during the move, you might want to pop the side panel off and make sure the GPU is actually seated all the way in its slot. It’s easy for it to wiggle out of the PCIe slot just a tiny bit. Double-check all your cable connections too, then go ahead and plug it in to boot it up. If nothing happens, check the monitor menu and manually switch the input to "digital" if it doesn't auto-detect.

Just send a pic of your desktop background so we don't have to keep guessing...
