Anonymous said:First of all, I have no idea why you guys decided to start cleaning up the US section first.
Is this some directive coming from the top brass, or just your own personal take on what "quality" means?
If this actually came from above, then I’m going to step up in the US section and start reporting every single instance of profanity and everything else. Those same authors were incredibly disrespectful to people posting certain ads and stuff. So, when it comes down to actual quality and basic decency, they were the first ones who deserved to be banned.
Secondly, since I'm naive enough to believe your goal is actually to improve the quality of the forum, I’d ask you to run an analysis on all the PDFs and their associated chats so we can actually see if they even hold any value.
I truly believe your goal should be satisfying everyone on the forum, and you'll only achieve that through transparency, impartiality, and all those qualities that define a democracy rather than a totalitarian regime.

Well, it’s because we happen to be the moderators for this specific sub-forum, isn't it? 😁

I have to wonder if you truly grasp the distinction between the main forum, its various sub-forums, the moderators, and the administrators, because from where I’m sitting, it seems there might be some confusion on your part.
Is this some sort of directive handed down from the top, or just your own personal interpretation of what "quality" should look like?
If this really is a mandate from the higher-ups, then I’ll be the first to step up in the US section and start reporting every instance of profanity or misconduct. To be perfectly honest, some of those very same authors have been incredibly disrespectful toward people posting certain advertisements and such. From the perspective of maintaining quality and decent conduct, they were actually the first ones who deserved a ban.

So please, go ahead and report them—who is going to stop you?

Profanity itself isn't strictly forbidden, but anyone can certainly report a post that is unpleasant or rude. Truly, anyone.

Secondly, I’m not about to be naive enough to believe your goal is to improve the overall quality of the Forum. If that were actually the case, I would ask you to perform a full analysis of all the PDFs and their corresponding chats so we could actually evaluate their validity.

Why on earth would anyone do that for us? Is that somehow our job description?
We serve as moderators for specific sub-forums. It is fundamentally in the interest of the entire forum to ensure we are elevating the quality within the specific sub-forums that we oversee.

I believe your true goal is to satisfy all the forum members, and you’ll achieve that through transparency, impartiality, and all those qualities that define a democracy rather than a totalitarian regime.

It’s quite funny how you start by being suspicious and searching for motives, only to suddenly turn around and believe everything? Please. 😉

I actually just started a thread on this forum recently about how seriously the moderators take reporting posts that are being jerks.

Anonymous said:Look, sorry, but all you're doing is proving you weren't actually present as moderators during the chat.
There was plenty of whining, crying, and venting. But through the format of the chat, you could actually help those people—and even help me personally. If someone mentioned feeling lonely and others started analyzing expectations, standards, or social anxiety, everyone would have been sanctioned for going off topic. Or do you think psychological support is somehow restricted for certain people?
The mess we're dealing with now isn't happening because the chat is pointless or "spamy" instead of being true to the US spirit; it's happening because you didn't do your jobs.
Honestly, I think your view of the chat is pretty narrow if you consider it nothing but pure spam. I wonder if other moderators on different forums feel the same way?
To be blunt, you allowed the US section—where I used to post way more often—to completely spiral by letting threads about random nonsense, song lyrics, or just whatever people felt like saying slide through. Is there any quality in that? And then, when the numbers started dropping, you looked around and pointed a finger at our activity as the sole reason.
The chat saw an insane spike in posts, but that happened precisely because you weren't moderating. Now that things have settled down and become more constructive, less spamy, and concise again, it's entirely thanks to us stepping up and doing your job—yet you want to dump it into Off topic.
It would have made much more sense if you had cleaned up the entire US section from all the mindless, low-quality threads first before coming for our activity in those specific discussions.
Anyone who actually followed the chat could see there are plenty of people contributing high-quality content to the whole PDF.
If you want to know why the US section turned into a disaster, I suggest you start by looking at your own area of responsibility.

It’s way easier to just ditch high-quality competition than it is to actually step up your own game, which is something you guys clearly have no clue how to do.

The reason my finger is such a thorn in your side is because this place was actually good thanks to the people posting here who built it, not because of your other mind-numbing threads, so you decided to just kill off the one valuable thing left on US-ovac.

It’s also wrong to say that any random topic that sparks a heated debate is somehow less valuable than the Finger. People can connect over just about anything—they can swap PMoves, build actual friendships, or even help each other solve real-life problems, all without ever touching the Finger, which you claim is the most helpful part of everything. There’s just no way to objectively measure it; you could argue this specific thread saved ten lives, while that other one saved fifty. It's impossible to quantify.

I'm just saying.

I've been in both chats, have you?

Honestly, I feel bad that you guys pushed through this whole migration thing.
I’ve been reading, but I still haven't seen one single solid reason for it.
Writing thread by thread is just a super slow way to communicate, period. I actually liked how Brandon Castillo4 tolerated the chat being inside the threads—it sped up the whole PDF vibe a bit, but even then, it wasn't quite there.
This chat was basically like a mini US sub-community within the PDF. Sometimes people feel lonely, and a PDF can be pretty dead on its own. Not everyone has that classic forum habit of wandering through every single PDF out there.
The truth is, most people don't bother posting in specific threads because back before Brandon Castillo4 took over, the US was kind of a ghost town. Having the chat allowed for much more fluid conversation about the topics that constantly keep the US alive.

It’s a small US. A ton of new members have joined, and that’s where they practice how to actually communicate on a forum.
Sure, there’s a core group that knows the ropes, but the chat is what kept things interesting and actually drove traffic here.

Moderators 👎

Just kill off the ads thread too. What’s even the point? For God's sake, people just post an ad and then write two sentences for the entire forum.

Your job was supposed to be moving the in-thread chat over to a dedicated chat—that was the whole plan.
As far as I can see, Brandon Castillo4 is the only one with the skill to keep threads focused with minimal chat clutter, and lately, he's been dealing with a lot of it.

Sometimes it’s just easier to hop into a chat than to compose a full post in a thread. And this chat always welcomed newcomers, providing that sense of community and belonging that's absolutely vital for someone who is feeling lonely.

Life is hard enough as it is, man; not everyone is a social butterfly or some master communicator. If the chat is tucked away somewhere inconvenient, people don't stand a chance...you've effectively killed the chance for at least one new, struggling member to find their footing again.
Do I really have to explain the role of a pack or a community in therapy to you people???
I don't get how the entire PDF is supposed to make up for that.

Honestly, with all due respect to your role as an admin, communicating with a regular user like this makes it seem like you've forgotten that your job is to serve the community and us, not the other way around.

Oh, I bet she’s gonna snap back and tell you how she’s the moderator and you’re totally missing the point, claiming she’s doing an amazing job because she just nuked the only actually decent thread on Apple, which she probably didn't even bother reading in the first place.

So... what’s the deal with the poll? Come on, be brave... let's get productive here and actually raise the bar for these official PDFs... let's see. Are we actually getting in anyone's way, and if so, who and why? Or are we just bothering your merry little trio?

@brightridge59, why don't you ever step up to improve things over on the Reddit forums? You're a moderator there too, after all... honestly... just leave it to Drit. This isn't the right fit for him, but he was proven to be solid back on Reddit.

mod😉, just so we're clear, being an admin is the next level up from being a mod.

Well, if you all decide to go off and read books or whatever else instead of staying engaged, what's going to be left of the Finger? 🤷

I want to apologize to everyone. I know this whole thing is about the moderator, but honestly, I was just so caught off guard by how personal the conversation was getting that I let my guard down and made a slip-up.

Yeah, sure, it hasn't vanished, but let's be real—it isn't the same Finger anymore. It’s just turning into any other run-of-the-mill chat room. Just one of those endless digital voids. We aren't going to see people showing up for the same specific reasons I did—you know, that shared vibe or purpose. Instead, we'll just get a revolving door of new users who see this as just another place to kill time. And honestly? That's the whole damn problem.

Is all this drama really about a few chat threads?

Man.

Look, let’s be real—the chat is basically just clutter by default. It’s useless noise that nobody actually cares about reading unless you're one of the people typing in there. If the Apple mods decided to clear those threads out themselves, then the admin team is clearly backing them up.

A chat room is defined by its people—by the actual forum members. Therefore, the very nature of the conversation depends entirely on who decides to show up and participate.

It’s the individuals and their specific way of communicating that dictate what a space becomes; it isn't some inherent quality of the website itself!

And those who are actually looking for it will find it.

Maybe even a few regulars will end up pointing people toward much deeper, more niche communities further down the rabbit hole.😁

Nah, it doesn't. ☕

It honestly doesn't matter if he helped a bunch of lonely people unwind, find their tribe, open up, laugh, joke around, or just become more social and less wound up...

Clearly, the whole point of this Apple forum is to make sure the lonely stay lonely, because hey, life's a bitch and then you die. ☕

Man, you guys really turned this into a dedicated chat thread, didn't you? 🤣
It’s almost like the mods completely missed the whole point of "fate," which is probably just destiny playing its little games by bringing people together in there, sparking some friendships, or who knows, maybe even a few romances. 😁
I don't hang out in that chat that much myself—though I probably should 🤣—but honestly, I think having it is necessary just to keep all the mindless spamming and random chatter from bleeding into threads where it definitely doesn't belong. I'll admit, I occasionally get carried away and start chatting in places I shouldn't, even though I know I'm basically begging for a ban, but hey, that's your problem to deal with, you moderators. You've got the power to properly crack down on the chatting, the Offtopic stuff, the spam, and the trolls, so why wouldn't you? That's literally what you're here for.
Now I'm just sitting here waiting for the mods from the other subforums to decide when they're going to start moving their chats over to Offtopic... ☕

My job isn't to serve anyone. Especially not users who act like rabid dogs, just waiting for any excuse to launch into an unhinged, baseless tirade against everything the current mod team is trying to accomplish.
