Hey everyone.
I've got a problem. So, I recently picked up a Logitech card reader—a Cisco SDHC one—to avoid the hassle of plugging my camera directly into the computer to move photos. The issue is my PC (x86) isn't recognizing the reader at all. It doesn't even show up in My Computer. It just shows up as "Unspecified" under All Control panel Items - Devices and Printers.
I guess the problem is my computer, because the reader works fine on another laptop (not sure if that one is x86 or x64).
It came with a CD containing "LanPro_driver_v1" for the x64 version (if I'm seeing that right), but it won't work on my machine..
So, I'm wondering: is there some simple, logical fix here?
Is there any other software that might solve this?
Is there any hope left in this world?

Basically, you got drivers with the device, so I'd bet that other computer is running a 64-bit OS, which is why the reader works there since the driver is 64-bit.

Your first computer is running a 32-bit system, so that's why you can't install a 64-bit driver.

Try checking the manufacturer's website to see if they have a 32-bit version of the driver for that reader.

I've installed everything they offer. Turns out, that isn't the issue.
I even tried the card reader on a third PC—one identical to mine—and it worked perfectly. I guess there’s some kind of antivirus block or something similar on my machine preventing the software from running. I have no clue where to change the settings, though. I've tried everything, Googled it, messed around with settings... nothing works.🙂

Is there some kind of free, universal software out there that could just make this card reader work on any computer?🤷

Nah, there’s no such thing as a "one size fits all" software solution—it just doesn't work that way. What version of Windows are you actually running on your machine? If you're still rocking Windows XP, then you absolutely need to have Service Pack 3 installed for this to even stand a chance.

I'm on Windows 7...😕
The only way right now is to move the photos from the card to a USB drive using this reader, then just plug the drive into another computer. Now I just have to hope the stick doesn't die on me... 🙂Uffff...

Since you guys are already here; does anyone know if there's any free software out there for reading and editing RAW files? Not just JPGs...

thanks!!👍

I suspect that card reader can't handle SDHC (SD High Capacity) cards; it likely only supports standard SD.
When you go to buy a card reader, make sure it explicitly states SDHC support. If it doesn't, it won't work—the internal electronics simply aren't fast enough.

Just so you know: SDHC cards offer better speeds and various speed classes. For even higher speeds, you'd need SDXC.
But ultimately, it all depends on the device and which specific card it requires.

That card reader doesn't require any special software; it uses the standard drivers already built into Windows. It's just a basic USB driver. It works on Windows XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
The 32-bit or 64-bit architecture makes no difference here.

The driver CD is only necessary if you actually intend to use the Ethernet port on that card reader.
