Does anyone happen to know if there's a place that performs this surgery using lasers? I've heard that's the gold standard lately... I actually heard about a Dr. Klapan, if anyone has any experience with him or knows his reputation... if anyone could share some insight, I'd appreciate it.
thanks a million...!

Dr. Klapan used to practice over at Mercy Hospital, but word is they moved everything over to Rib... specifically the whole ENT department.

Edit: just found this online! http://www.poliklinika-klapan.com/

Man, my nose has been more clogged than an old drain for way too long now. It’s just constant dripping and congestion, and honestly, I finally hit my limit and went to see a specialist. Turns out, I've got nasal polyps. Since I don't want to spend my entire weekend scrolling through 200 pages of this forum, could anyone share their experiences? I'm just sitting here waiting for my procedure, wondering how long the surgery actually takes, what the recovery timeline looks like, how much it hurts, and all that good stuff. Thanks a ton!

Ugh, I’m dealing with some issues myself, but first off—what actually counts as polyps?? For the last week or so, my nose has just been filled with this incredibly dry mucus—and a ton of it, too—both during the day and through the night. I can’t seem to clear it out any other way than by picking at it😠 or plugging one nostril and blowing really hard, but even then, nothing seems to work. It builds up all throughout the inside of my nose, though it feels most intense a little further back.
I don't have any allergies, and my nose isn't even runny; it's just this constant buildup of... well, I don't know what or why.

Now my nose is actually starting to hurt quite a bit from the constant picking I’ve been forced to do twice a day—is it possible I'm dealing with the same crap?

I've never had anything like this happen before.😕

Thanks!

I was wondering if laser surgery for nasal polyps is something you have to pay out of pocket...
For three years now, I haven't been able to breathe normally through my nose because of these polyps, and my doctor mentioned they could be removed using a laser up in Washington, D.C.
What I really want to know is where this can actually be done, and whether there's a cost involved—especially since I’m still waiting to hit adulthood?!?!!?!?
And if anyone here has actually gone through it, could you maybe tell me a bit more about what to expect?

Basically, polyps are just these growths inside your nose that block everything up if they get big enough..
My doctor told me it feels like someone shoved a giant plum up my nose or something, which is why I can't breathe at all..

Does this require payment? 😁

Medicare covers nasal polyp removal surgery. Your doctor will decide whether you need laser or endoscopic treatment.
Susan Nelson6, book an appointment at either Mayo Clinic or Johns Hopkins for a consultation as soon as possible. By the time you clear all the tests and actually get on the schedule, it could take about six months... at least, that was my experience six years ago.
The surgery isn't too bad if it's just the polyps. You'll have to deal with nasal packing for five days, but once that's out, you can breathe again.

Thank you so much.. 🙂 I think I'll get everything sorted out once I've finished my allergy testing and the nasal swab...
thanks...

Since I couldn't find a thread specifically about polyps—everyone just talks about sinuses—I figured I'd just start my own. Help me out here!
I know exactly what's going on with me: nasal polyps. About 10 years ago, I had surgery to clear out some polyps in my maxillary sinuses, and they fixed my deviated septum at the same time... which was great. I actually got to enjoy breathing normally for a few good years after that. But now? The polyps are back, and they've completely clogged up both nostrils. After doing some testing, I found out I'm allergic to dust mites and household dust. I've been using Flonase and Tafen, and they worked okay at first, but lately, they barely do anything at all. I even tried that homeopathic stuff, but honestly, it didn't help one bit.
So, what's changed in the last decade or so? Is there some kind of less painful—maybe faster—surgery out there? Or better yet, is there a spray or some drops that can actually make the polyps recede? Or if you want to get really optimistic... maybe a natural syrup, tea, or some old-school folk remedy that helps them disappear?

What kind of surgery did you have? And how long was the recovery process... Did you find anything that actually helps with dust mite allergies?
As for me, I’ve gone through two surgeries myself—the last one was about six years ago. The polyps decided to make a comeback. I can breathe okay, I guess, but my sense of smell is pretty much gone. I also deal with dust mite and asthma allergies. I haven't found a miracle cure, but I've noticed some things help while others just don't...

Just the standard old-school stuff, you know, the "hammer and chisel" approach. They pack your nose with tampons, you choke down painkillers for a day or two, and then they let you go home after five days. Then you gotta head back out a few days later just to get the tampons pulled out. I mean, sure, maybe I won't need it again for ten years, but what if those polyps come crawling back in a month or a year or two? That’s not a real fix!
I heard there’s this laser thing where they zap the polyps away and you get to go straight home. Is that actually legit, and what does that even cost?
But honestly, more than anything, I’d love to find some "natural" drops that actually work. I'm positive something like that exists out there somewhere, but I can't find a single thing online...

A while back—not sure what the standard protocol is these days—doctors used to prescribe Singulair (montelukast) for nasal polyps. It actually provided significant relief for quite a few people, and it's even indicated for treating what's known as aspirin-induced asthma. It might be worth checking in with an ENT specialist to see if that's something worth considering for your situation.

When was this timely? I've seen four different ENT specialists over the last decade because of polyps, and not one of them ever mentioned that medication.

There's also laser and endoscopic surgery (FESS—Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery); an ENT should be able to tell you which route fits your situation. Recovery from FESS is usually faster since it's less invasive (you can even find videos on YouTube 😬). Theoretically, you could head home the same day or maybe the next. They pull the tampons five days post-op. Medicare covers this kind of procedure, though I'm not sure if every hospital offers it... they didn't always.
What makes you so certain there are herbal drops that would actually solve the problem?

About a year and a half ago, give or take.
The drug has actually been out there for maybe 15 years now.
I guess ENT specialists just look at the whole clinical picture and decide if something like montelukast is actually going to move the needle for a specific patient, so they probably figured it wouldn't make much of a difference in your case.

Interesting. I know about that medication because I used to deal with asthma issues quite a bit back in the day. On top of that, I have an aspirin allergy and nasal polyps. Probably wasn't standard practice the last time I saw my ENT...

Look, I’m just a firm believer that for basically any ailment out there, there's a remedy waiting to be found in nature... if you know where to look. Sometimes it’s just one single plant, other times it’s some complex blend of ingredients—you know how it goes. Like, take people dealing with those annoying viral warts (on their feet or whatever)—they go through all this hell with scraping, lasers, burning them off, the whole nine yards... meanwhile, just applying an extract from the Spurge plant works like a charm. I’ve actually tested it on my own skin (yeah, a wart!) :-)!
I’ve seen stuff like this mentioned on various forums, but honestly... for nasal polyps, I haven’t stumbled onto anything quite like that yet, aside from those random herbal teas where you practically need a chemistry lab just to mix the damn thing together.

It would be amazing if there was some kind of natural remedy you could just stick up your nose to make polyps vanish, but I haven't found anything quite like that either. What I have come across on various international forums and groups—things that actually seem to help some people—is this:
- cutting out alcohol, especially beer
- staying away from smoking and smoky environments, and avoiding places with really dry air
- zinc
- omega-3 fatty acids
- eating healthy (avoiding processed junk food)
- aerobic exercise
- nasal rinsing with a Neti pot (Rhino Horn and similar stuff)
- herbs containing rosmarinic acid (rosemary, oregano, Gotu Kola, thyme, mint, sage)
- horseradish and garlic

Am I a little late to the party? Maybe, but I haven't seen anyone else posting since the big event ended! What happened? How did everyone fare? You all spent so much time complaining like a bunch of old grouches and then went silent!
Anyway, let me see if I can offer a little insight here—so, nasal polyps.
I’ve actually been stuck on a waiting list for about a year now, just waiting for my turn.
I tried everything under the sun, honestly. I experimented with all sorts of "natural" remedies—willow branches, ivy leaves (pure poison, if you ask me)—you name it, I shoved it up my nose, and of course, absolutely nothing worked. Even Avamys, which my ENT insisted I use, didn't do a thing. I tried saline drops, though the eucalyptus ones gave me a tiny bit of relief, and I even tried breathing in ocean air and drinking seawater (San Diego style) for six months straight. The result? Just one totally blocked nostril.
Then came the massive turning point when I started taking antihistamines, asthma meds, and corticosteroids. Now, I'll admit, I made a bit of a mistake: I accidentally doubled my dose. Instead of the recommended 3x1, I was taking 3x2—but hey, my stomach didn't complain! Suddenly, my nose started opening up. My sense of smell came back, the dripping stopped, and I could finally breathe normally without waking up with a parched mouth from mouth-breathing all night. After that, I kept using Nasic nasal drops on my own initiative. Once I sat down with an allergist, we went even harder on the regimen; now it's Aerius tablets every single morning and 2 x2 Nasonex nasal spray. That’s what keeps me going. Fingers crossed it stays this way!

I have personally experimented with both Flonase spray and Flonase drops. I suppose the drops might offer some relief if one begins using them at the very onset of a flare-up or during polyp formation.
In all honesty, the results were nothing short of revolutionary when I took 20mg of Decortin for the first seven days, followed by 15mg of Decortin for the subsequent seven days.
The polyps tend to recede after about 48 hours, which generally leaves me feeling stable for an entire month.
I actually consulted with my ENT regarding how many times a year one could safely undergo such a 14-day course, and they indicated that doing this three times annually should not be harmful.🙂

What medications (specifically the corticosteroids) were you taking, and what was the dosage schedule?
