So, I’m starting to realize—slowly but surely—that I’m hitting a wall with my RAM. I really need an upgrade, and I'm looking to jump straight up to 4GB since I'm currently sitting on a measly 1GB...

Since I'm planning to grab some parts off eBay, I could use a little guidance from you guys. I've never actually bought memory online before, so I don't want to screw this up. Here’s the breakdown of what I'm working with:

ASUS ROG motherboard (Medion OEM)
Motherboard Chipset: Intel Core i9 processor

That's the board, and here is what Everest is pulling up regarding the current memory setup:

DIMM2: Swissbit SDU06464P1B72MT-50 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-2-2-6 @ 133 MHz)

DIMM4: Swissbit SDU06464P1B72MT-50 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-2-2-6 @ 133 MHz)

Module Name Swissbit SDU06464P1B72MT-50
Serial Number 68010000h (360)
Memory Speed PC3200 (200 MHz)
Module Width 64 bit
Module Voltage SSTL 2.5
Refresh Rate Reduced (7.8 us), Self-Refresh

Everest is throwing out a bunch of other technical specs too, but I doubt they matter much... hopefully the experts here can make sense of this data and point me in the right direction.
If anyone can help me out, I was thinking about just picking up two 2GB sticks if that's even an option?

Just so you know, that 4x1GB board won't support a 2x2GB configuration.

So, I guess that's pretty much the ceiling at 4 gigs then...
As for the price, $26? Honestly, that seems more than reasonable to me, doesn't it?

Just purely out of curiosity, what’s left of the current setup? I’m not sure if upgrading is even worth the hassle at this point—DDR1 RAM feels like it belongs in the Stone Age. 😬

Standard DDR1 is practically impossible to find nowadays, even in 2GB sticks—at least from my experience. That specific eBay listing in the link above won't be compatible with the author's motherboard. You really need to check the item description 😉
.
My advice to the author: look on local classifieds for two 1GB sticks for about $27 each. Pairing those with what’s already installed would bring the total to 3GB, which is just under the limit that a 32-bit version of Windows can address—which is most likely what they are running. It honestly makes zero sense to sink more money than that into an old machine with a Pentium 4 processor 😉

Pentium 4 HT 3.6 GHz, 1GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, a Radeon x700 graphics card... honestly, I just use the thing for streaming and movies on my TV monitor...

My advice to the owner is to just look through local classifieds and see if you can snag two 1GB sticks for maybe $27 a piece. Combined with what's already in there, you'll hit 3GB—which is just shy of what a 32-bit version of Windows can actually address, which is likely what they're running anyway. Honestly, there’s zero point in dropping more than that on an ancient rig with a Pentium 4 processor... 😉

I'm not in America, I'm over in Canada, and even here I haven't had any luck finding the right RAM. I don't think I even need to push it to 4GB; 3GB should do fine, and frankly, I don't care much either way. If you wouldn't mind dropping an eBay link for some compatible RAM so I can take a look...

My advice to the author would be to look on Craigslist for two 1GB sticks for maybe $27 each. That would bring the total up to 3GB when combined with what's already there—just under the limit for 32-bit Windows, which is likely what's being used. Honestly, there's no point in spending more than that on an old rig with a Pentium 4 processor 😉

Well, enlighten us then. Why won't it work?

If you're still running on a SATA drive, I’d honestly just ditch it and grab this instead:

MSI H61M-P20_ (Socket 1155, DDR3, SATA II, PS/2, USB 2.0, VGA, DVI, LAN, audio Line-In, Audio
Intel Celeron G1620
Adata DDR3 4GB 1333MHz, AD3U1333B2G9-R

Total cost:$284+$13 shipping via Amazon

That Intel Celeron G1620 is actually a fantastic processor. It completely outclasses the Pentium 4. Honestly, I have to wonder how you manage to keep your cool while trying to watch streams on that PC! 😬
If you could just pull those out for me. $300That suggestion from crimsonstag84 would make for an excellent upgrade for you.

If you're looking for some used DDR1 in the US, try reaching out to this guy—he might have more sticks in stock.
The technical specifications for these older components remain quite specific. If you are looking to upgrade an aging system, please ensure that the hardware compatibility is fully verified before making a purchase.
12 miles One gigabyte seems like a solid amount.
This guy has quite a few pieces available too:
The technical specifications regarding DDR memory speeds and frequency stability are quite clear. It is essential to ensure that the PC3200 modules are properly rated for 200MHz operation to maintain system reliability.

If you're looking to pick one up on eBay:
I found this listing on eBay for two units of 1GB and 2GB memory. It looks like a solid option.

I can't give you a 100% guarantee on compatibility, though everything looks like it should work just fine. 🙂

That Intel Celeron G1620 is actually a solid little chip. It puts that Pentium 4 to shame, honestly. I really have to wonder how you have the patience to even attempt streaming on a PC like that...
If you can scrape together those extra $300, what crimsonstag84 suggested would be a massive upgrade for you.

Look, I wasn't planning on dropping that kind of cash on this rig. I've already got two laptops at home that do all the heavy lifting; this thing is strictly just for movies and streaming...

To be completely honest, it doesn't lag for me even for a second (not sure if I'm allowed to say that), but I use ACE Stream and it works perfectly fine without any issues whatsoever...

If you're hunting for used DDR1 in the States, maybe try reaching out to this guy on Craigslist; he might have more sticks available:

12 milesThe price for 1GB seems reasonable enough...
There's also this other seller with more stock:

Or if you want to check eBay:

I can't give you any guarantees on compatibility, though everything looks like it should work out fine.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321311993655...84.m1423.l2649

What about this one? Think it would do the job?

If your computer is getting the job done, then it's perfectly fine 🙂

Regarding memory from eBay, you need to be careful. A lot of the DDR memory listed on eBay is high density, which won't work on most motherboards.
The item you linked should be compatible, just like the one I provided in my link 🙂

If it isn't giving you any grief and everything's running fine, I guess why bother upgrading?
