Guys, I’m stuck...
I was running the old 14.9 drivers and tried to swap them out for the new 15.7 version.
I wiped the old ones through the Control Panel and used a cleanup tool to scrub any leftover junk from the system.

Started the new installation, but halfway through, everything went black. Now my monitor is just screaming "ANALOG OUT OF RANGE 74.9/50."
I tried rebooting, but it’s useless—every single time Windows loads, that error pops right back up.

I managed to get into Safe Mode, but trying to run the driver install from there didn't do a damn thing.

I'm at a total loss here.

Just wipe everything clean and reinstall the older versions. There's nothing new under the sun—those Radeon drivers are still unstable. Back in the day, you always had to hunt down the specific version that actually played nice with your particular card. You can't just leave auto-update turned on; if you do, you're at the mercy of Windows Update, and by the time they finally get around to pushing a driver to you, it'll probably be broken anyway.

What tool did you use to wipe out the leftover driver sweeper files?

Try resetting your monitor to its default settings—native resolution, standard refresh rate, all that stuff—before you test it again.

I honestly just stick to using the Radeon software... I'll grab the latest version straight from the AMD website, run the installer, and call it a day. It feels like the setup process just handles wiping out the old version automatically for me. Everything runs totally smooth on my 6670 GDDR5 without any leftover junk hanging around from previous installs.

But seriously, maybe try completely nuking those old drivers first before you attempt to lay down the new ones...

ps: there’s really no point in chasing the newest drivers for an older card unless they specifically optimized them for whatever game you're currently grinding through..

Using Display Driver Uninstaller..

I didn't touch any monitor settings..
The monitor is an old Dell UltraSharp 22

it really doesn't matter which monitor you end up picking...

I mean, there really isn't... (bad answer... 😬 , you still have a GPU)
the guy probably thinks maybe you haven't set the right resolution in Windows or something...
honestly, just... wipe those old drivers out completely and install the fresh ones.

Alright, I rolled back to the old drivers... Does that mean I'm stuck without the new ones?
I really want to test out NVIDIA Dynamic Super Resolution.

From what I can tell, that "analog out of range" error usually points back to the monitor itself. What refresh rate is your screen set to, and are you actually able to change those settings?

I'm running an old Dell UltraSharp 22
The resolution is set at 1680x1050 at 60Hz
But I can't seem to bump up the refresh rate no matter what I try...

According to this, it should be able to hit 83Hz
http://www.manualmonitor.com/lg-flatron-l222ws
But the second I try to push it past 60, I just get that "out of range" error message.

🤷

You have here a specific workaround (which pops up in several other threads like this one), so give it a shot—you've got nothing to lose.

It says:

You'll see 60Hz or ADAPTER DEFAULT listed - same as what was there before. Click on this so that it is selected again. It may seem odd that you are reselecting the same value but this is a necessary step so please don't skip.

If that doesn't cut it and the previous drivers were working fine, just stick with those and call it a day.

Once that pops up right in the middle of a driver installation, nothing else matters. At that point, the whole thing is just dead in the water.

You could try playing around with this tool:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/qres/

I guess I’d just write a quick .bat script to call this thing to force the resolution back to 800x600 at 60Hz, then toss it into the Microsoft Sysinternals folder. You’d install the drivers, reboot, and even if you can't see anything, maybe just let it sit for five minutes before restarting again. If you have Windows set to auto-login, this should probably trigger and fix the resolution for you.

How’d you pull that off? Just so the next generation knows what they're getting into, I guess.

Before I started the driver install, I hopped into System Configuration and went to the BOOT tab to check BASE VIDEO.

I kicked off the installation, and sure enough, the usual happens—the screen goes black right in the middle of it. I waited about 10 minutes for it to finish, then just forced a reboot.

When it booted back up, it stayed in BASE VIDEO mode, so everything actually worked.

Once you're up and running, you have to race over to Control Panel under VGA DISPLAY PROPERTIES to uncheck USE EXTENDED DISPLAY IDENTIFICATION DATA (EDID) and manually pick your resolution.

Just a heads-up: you have to move fast. If you don't, the screen blacks out again within a minute.

After you've tweaked things in Control Panel, go back to the desktop, right-click, and set the resolution to match what you picked in Control Panel.

It’s a total nightmare. 🤦
