New genre?

With all these comic book adaptations flooding the market and basically owning the box office lately—is it even worth calling them just movies anymore? Maybe we’re looking at a whole new genre now, sitting right there next to action, horror, or comedy...

I wouldn't go that far. If we followed that logic, book adaptations would essentially need to be classified as their own distinct genre. Or something along those lines. ☕

Many books have been turned into movies, but that doesn't make "book adaptations" a genre. Those films fall under action, comedy, sci-fi, or adventure.
It's the exact same deal with comic books.

It's the exact same deal when you look at comic books.

I'm with you on that. Most comic book adaptations (take Marvel, for instance) are pretty much just sci-fi movies.
