Makes sense.

I always figured Lana Del Rey was just some generic pop trash, so I never really gave her a shot. Once I actually sat down and listened, though, my mind changed a bit. I’m still not saying she’s some legendary genius, and I haven't spun her entire discography, but she’s a decent songwriter.

Maybe her whole aesthetic just threw me off.

These are drawings by Helene Smith, the first woman on Mars. 😁

I still don't think she's some god-tier legend and I haven't blasted her music constantly, but what I did hear felt worthwhile. I can tell she isn't a bad songwriter.

Maybe her whole image just threw me off.

No way she's a bad songwriter—not with lyrics like 'My pussy tastes like Pepsi' and 'I got sweet taste for men who are older.'😁

What a fascinating story. I hadn't even heard of her.
It's creepy. You have to wonder what happens to brain chemistry to make someone live in that world, that life. Imagine being inside her head. To her, it was all real. There's no point trying to convince her otherwise when this is her reality.
The level of detail in her worldbuilding is insane. Most people couldn't dream up something that complex. The details, the entire language, the communication systems.

Haha, and then there's this version of modern Mars. A weird mix of Lego and Walmart. And then this part:

Yet, anti-vaxxers were already all over the place. Hélène recalls she heard a child disgruntled at his mother because she didn’t want to follow the treatments her doctor had prescribed to her. 😁

obviously she can't be a bad writer, given lines like 'My pussy tastes like Pepsi' and 'I got sweet taste for men who are older'. 😁

That's exactly what I thought. 😁

I'll give her this much, though: out of everyone in the Lana Del Rey discography, she’s actually got some substance 😁

Most people couldn't even begin to wrap their heads around how complex she made that world and its lore. The sheer level of detail—the entire language, the communication systems... it's insane.

The whole thing reminded me of something straight out of a Borges story—probably just because of what I'm reading right now—especially that bit about the Martian language and grammar.

But whatever, I'll stick to rooftop fountains. 😁

I'll give her this much regarding Lana Del Rey 😁

deicide

I’m constantly thinking about it and looking at her face. I can't shake the feeling that she's totally fake. She tries way too hard to be something she isn't through her lyrics. Just let her exist. Let her sing. I'm done haha.

But honestly, rooftop fountains are still better. 😁

The stuff about language and grammar doesn't surprise me. That's exactly what you'd expect when someone is building a story about a new world and civilization. Plus, in her head, it's all real; she's actually living that life. On one hand, her brain is failing, but on the other, it's working overtime. It's beautiful and sad at the same time.

I think it's cool she wove in a love story. At least she's happy. Who knows how Martians are in bed. 😁

Since we're talking about vocals, let's talk about the most beautiful city in the world. It was home to the absolute legend of songwriting eccentricity—honestly, any guy over 50 in town has some wild story to tell me about the late Toma Bebić.

One of his best tracks—I mean, the melody is so tight even the top 60s pop producers would be jealous—is the reason I’ve been way more careful whenever I step onto a pier, a catamaran, or a ferry since then.

Glad I finally figured out that Lanin pussy tastes (and probably smells) like Pepsi—at least it doesn't taste sour. 😁

Toma Bebić is a legend. It’s no surprise people are talking about him.

I know it's nothing new, but Miladin is always in the mix too. You can't beat a name like Miladin.

It’s been a minute. I once downed a liter of bourbon and ended up under the table.

What I meant was—Helene Smith is basically a character out of a Borges story to me. Like, she's living through multiple parallel lives and layers of reality all at once.

Clearly, every single aspect of that new world needed deep-diving. 😁

Judging by the comments, the final mix is a total disaster—it’s such a shame because they completely botched a great folk track.

Clearly, there were plenty of aspects of this new world to dig into. 😁

Yeah, I get it. But look, it wouldn't be nearly as interesting if she just obsessed over linguistic puzzles or spent her time building LEGO houses with fountains on the roof. She needs to dive into the language of love too. 😁

Dennis Hall41 said:Based on the comments, it sounds like the final mix is a mess. Too bad, it really ruined a solid folk track.

I don't know much about the rock scene over in New Zealand—honestly, The Beatles are pretty much all I need to listen to.

One of his best tracks features a melodic structure that would make the top 60s pop songwriters jealous; ever since I heard it, I've found myself walking much more carefully whenever I step onto a pier, a sailboat, or a ferry.

The legendary Tom Petty—it's heavy stuff, and if I started listening to him right now, I’d probably just end up feeling pretty blue. But he wrote songs about life in the South that actually feel real, avoiding all those tired clichés. 👍
