The Great Fire - The Great Fire

Touché Amoré - Limelight 🙂

Protomartyr - The Aphorist

Porridge Radio - 7 Seconds

I've been vibing to these lately—mostly during my early morning coffee runs.

The way they subtly snuck that touch of The Great Fire into Touche Amore is just genius, 😬 Ashley Grant66. You actually sent me down memory lane there... I started thinking about la Dispute🙂

I've been stuck on these lately, especially during my morning commutes.

😍
Ugh, I always end up circling back to this whenever I get into one of those manic listening moods with The Great Fire...
I actually heard they were working on some new tracks recently, and there was even a fresh session over at KEXP. 🎉

For a lesser-known act, this was my latest discovery:
😍

But seriously... when are you going to suggest them for Album of the Week? 🙂

hey, Jamie Davis9, how's school treating you? 🙂

it's just summer heat and humidity here. plus my water heater died, so now I'm stuck waiting on a repairman. 🍿

Oh man, I am absolutely loving this la Dispute album—I think I mentioned it somewhere else already, but honestly, I can't remember if I ever actually chatted about it with you! Adriana 😍
Man, I think that post-hardcore phase might just come back to haunt me again—I always end up calling those screamers "the loud ones" when I'm being cheeky. You know how it goes with bands like Alexisonfire or Brand New... you think you've outgrown them, then suddenly they're back on your playlist. My friend was celebrating her 30th birthday recently, so we actually blasted some of it—we were both just laughing at ourselves the whole time.

The Fountain is honestly great too! I don't know—to be fair, they always sound amazing live, but I just don't feel that "spark" to write much about them. It's like with bands like Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, or The War on Drugs... nothing specific comes to mind when I think of them. They aren't exactly at the top of my favorites list, but I still love having them on. 😁

I am absolutely loving this KEXP set—you guys seriously need to give it a listen. You can definitely feel those classic influences, but it doesn't sound like anyone else's work; it just feels totally fresh. Such a great, infectious energy!

Man, I swear that post-emo phase is always lurking in the shadows, just waiting to grab me again. I call those screamers "the screechers" lol. You know how it goes with bands like Alexisonfire or Brand New... you think you've outgrown all that angst, but then suddenly you're right back there again... anyway! A friend of mine just hit the big 3-0 recently, so we decided to blast some of the old stuff to celebrate. We were just sitting there laughing at ourselves... turns out we aren't as grown-up as we thought...

Man, I’ve been feeling so nostalgic lately... just looking back at everything... it’s wild how much has changed! 😁

Man, I used to blast them back in high school all the time... honestly! I’m definitely not really into that phase anymore, but hey, it’s always nice to take a little trip down memory lane once in a while...

I’m still absolutely loving that album... it just hits different! Said The King to The River...I mean, I actually think Adriana is pretty solid too. But honestly, like you said... that whole album is just incredible...

I actually suggested Fugazi over on the Albums thread the other day, but honestly? They’re way more aligned with that raw punk energy and the whole American hardcore scene... much harder and more grounded. This emotional stuff just isn't really hitting the spot for me lately... 😬

Gotta remind everyone where this whole thing actually kicked off (since we’re all such big softies here, right?):

Rites of Spring - All There Is... man, what a vibe! 🙂

Technically speaking, if we're talking about the first band to actually bring those raw, intimate themes into the hardcore scene, it’s gotta be Hüsker Dü... but honestly, most people point to Rites of Spring as the real birthplace of everything that became huge in the 2000s under that whole "emo" label! 🙂 )

My phone hasn't been handling calls for two days now, and honestly, I’ve been procrastinating on getting it fixed because there’s a certain peace in knowing I don't have to dial anyone and, more importantly, nobody can reach me... 🤣 anyway, I suppose I'll head to the Apple Store tomorrow

hohoho 🙂

The internet seems to be working perfectly fine on my end, so I have no idea what the issue is. 🤷

I used to blast them back in high school—man, those were the days. I'm definitely not in that headspace anymore, but hey, it’s always nice to take a little trip down memory lane every once in a while.

I’m still absolutely loving that record—it just hits different! The Killers to The NileI mean, I think Andrea is pretty great too—but honestly, like you said, that whole record is just incredible.

I actually suggested Fugazi over in the Records thread a little while back—but honestly, they’re much closer to that raw punk sound and that classic American hardcore vibe. They feel way more solid and "heavy" to me. This emotional stuff just isn't really hitting the spot for me lately! 😬

Might be worth a quick reminder of how this all actually started—just to keep these emotional types in check!

Just spun the Rites of Spring - All There is record—honestly such a vibe! It reminds me of those rainy afternoons back in Seattle when I used to just sit and listen to old punk tracks all day. 🙂

Technically speaking, Hüsker Dü was the first band to bring those really intimate themes into hardcore—but a lot of people point to Rites of Spring as the true birthplace of what eventually became the "emo" sound we saw blowing up in the 2000s. 🙂 )

This is good to know—thanks!
I’m pretty weak when it comes to the emo stuff too—once I hear a song that hits, I end up obsessing over it for a few days straight... Just so everyone knows though, I did cast my vote for Fugazi the other day! 😁 Fugazi 13 songs and Argument are such great records—I've mostly just been listening to them passively lately since my partner loves having them on in the background!

Just a little something—just checking in! Just for today—keeping things light!
Something to get you through the day! Ever since I can remember—honestly, probably since my first concert—I’ve been obsessed with this stuff. It just hits different!

My connection seems totally fine on my end, everything's working perfectly. 🤷

Looking at that screenshot, you're clearly on Wi-Fi. Try pulling the SIM card out and popping it back in—just make sure you power down the phone first. If that doesn't do the trick, your SIM might just be fried, so you'll probably have to head over to Verizon and grab a replacement. 👍

Well, that's just how it goes! You’ve gotta really sit down and actually listen sometimes, you know? Not just have it playing in the background while you're doing other stuff... you really have to dive in! 👍

I’m just getting started on this... honestly, still wrapping my head around everything! But I am so pumped to finally dive in. Let's goooo! Well, that little guy finally made it to the big jungle in the sky... RIP.

Hey, honestly, school is great, though I was doing everything online last week and finally moved back to in-person classes this Monday; there's just something about being physically present that feels much better. 🤷
Since my apartment building on Fifth Avenue was damaged in that earthquake, I don't really have my own space anymore, which means I don't even have a dedicated classroom; instead, we spend our afternoons at the local high school where they let us borrow a few of their rooms, so we're basically just making do with what we've got.
Oh, and I did get a new laptop. 🙂😁

since the big earthquake, I don't have my own building in downtown Chicago anymore, so no classroom of my own. we just hang out at the high school in the afternoons where they let us use 3 or 4 of their rooms and we make it work.
oh, and yeah, got a new laptop. 🙂😁

hey 🙂 yeah, definitely better in person. glad you guys at least have some kind of space. rebuilding after an earthquake moves at a snail's pace, like they're trying to slow it down on purpose. enjoy hanging with the crew! 🙂 and the new laptop! 😁

oh, right, water heater's fixed. good thing to have a friend who's a hobbyist repairman. 😁

anyway, skipped the game. gotta save my sanity. 🤦 np jane weaver the electric mountain ...

Well, yeah, the water heater is finally fixed. It's always a blessing to have a buddy who handles his own repairs. 😁

Anyway, I decided to skip the game; I'd rather not lose my mind over it. 🤦 kind of like Jane Weaver's "The Electric Mountain" ...

thanks! I'm stuck at work today from 4:30 until 5:10. 😁
