So there's this octopus, apparently named 'Paul', who supposedly predicts game results during the 2010 Census
At first, I figured it was just some joke, but then I happened to stumble upon this video right before the Germany vs. Spain match where she predicted a Spanish win... and well, we all know how that turned out.

The way they do it is kind of wild—they set up two little pools, each with a flag of one of the competing countries drawn at the bottom, and she just swims into one. That’s her "prediction."

I don't even know what to make of it. People are saying she hasn't missed yet, and I bet everyone's going to be watching closely to see if she nails the final too.

Anyone actually heard anything more about this?

Honestly, anyone who is determined to find deep meaning in something will always end up spotting some kind of sign

coincidence

The guy actually called the winner for every single game in the 2010 Census and the 2008 EP—well, except for that final match two years ago between Germany and Spain. So, he’s making up for it now. You really think that's just luck?

Don't let these headlines get to you—he hasn't predicted the outcome yet. After all that, he went ahead and picked Spain for his "prophecy."

I mean, you have to wonder if those cephalopods could actually be trained
though, it would certainly be something if they possessed abilities similar to a clairvoyant AC Milan 😕

Maybe she’s just drawn to the colors on the flag?
Specifically that red... since she headed over to Germany before they showed up with a flag that's got way more red on it.

Well, Ghana and England have plenty of red in their flags too, and she didn't pick them. Plus—and this is the big thing—I think most species don't see color the way we do. Some things, like bees, see way more, while most others just see a narrow range of darker tones. Not sure if octopuses are part of that minority group, though.

Some people claim her owner is actually predicting outcomes by putting better food in the bowl with the flag of the country he thinks will win—which is basically just the octopus picking the smellier food. But honestly, it’s hardly surprising that the owner is such a great "predictor." And since the octopus is in a German aquarium and people are watching the choice, I doubt the owner (a German guy) would intentionally upset his fellow citizens or the visitors by putting the better food in the bowl with the Mexican—or Spanish—flag. And as for him being such a gifted—and let's be objective here—predictor who thinks Germany will lose to Mexico... yeah, I highly doubt it.

The guy running the aquarium basically puts the bait in one container to make it more enticing than the other, and he always sides with Germany. But then, an octopus accidentally screwed him over by siding against Mexico, and honestly, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise 🤷
. Now, seeing as they're up against Spain, he’s realized how much of an attraction they are, so he's switching his bets to Spain because they actually have a legitimate shot at winning.

Actually, cephalopods have great color vision—in some ways, their eyes might even be better than ours.
Birds also see a pretty similar color spectrum to humans; it’s not as rare as people think.

Talking about them being "prophetic" doesn't really make sense: for starters, there's zero evidence that an octopus has even the slightest clue what it's doing.

Here’s how that octopus calls the shots... Honestly, maybe it’s just some pro gambler pulling that shell trick, or—given how much football that octopus watches at the bar—it might have actually figured out who's actually good at the game.

but isn't that exactly the point of prophecy? when you have absolutely no idea what's going on, yet that "something" tells you this is true and that is false. once you actually understand something, it just becomes basic logic.

whoever claims that prophecy in humans [regardless of consciousness] is tied to consciousness is dead wrong. if anything, people always say you have to "clear your mind" to let the message come through from somewhere else—definitely not from your own conscious thoughts. falling into a "trance" would be one way to basically switch off the conscious mind entirely, wouldn't it?

Should we perhaps consider moving this entire conversation over to Alternative?

If you actually take a look, you'll see they have an identical thread running already. 😁

Has anyone else started picking up on the theory that these games are totally rigged? It feels like the big players in the betting industry have it all mapped out, using specific symbols that are only visible to those who are truly "in the loop."

Think about an octopus; it has eight tentacles. If you take those eight and divide them by two—since there are two teams playing in a sport like soccer—you get four. Divide that by two again, and you’ve got the two teams facing off in the championship. Divide it one more time, and you land on one: the winner. In my mind, the very symbolism of the number eight in an octopus is a subtle way of signaling that "They" know exactly what's coming, and they're leaving breadcrumbs for those who are observant enough to see them. You can even draw a line from the Octopus to the October Revolution:

While most people assume the February and October Revolutions were just direct fallout from World War I, official documents from the Russian Empire actually tell a much more complex story. After the unrest of 1905 was suppressed through heavy-handed state crackdowns, things seemed to settle down for a moment, but the situation was quietly spiraling out of control for the ruling elite. Throughout 1910, Russia saw about 222 strikes, with only 8 of those being classified as political. By 1913, however, the number of strikes had exploded to 2,404, and the police labeled 1,034 of them as political. Moving into the first half of 1914 alone, up until August, there were 3,534 strikes, 2,565 of which were deemed political. All in all, Russia was right on the precipice of revolution when the war broke out, yet even the Tsar seemed oblivious because the 1913 police reports were claiming that civil unrest was actually trending downward, suggesting everything could be handled without needing military intervention.

To me, this just goes to show that these "rigged" setups are often deeply political, and that the octopus is speaking a language meant only for those who are already initiated into the truth.

No way, let's dump it straight into Gastronomy. Might as well have them merge it with this thread right now. 🙂 😁

Paul brought me a nice little diary right when I was thinking about betting on Germany. I figured I’d listen to the experts and put it on Spain instead.. but honestly $33 😁 who knows? I’m asking you math nerds to calculate the probability of Paul's predictions being right.. thanks. obviously rel, 😁
