It looks to me like you bought a total piece of junk from Microsoft.
This rig should perform adequately. But using a Duron?

The new Duron is honestly kind of a disaster..
Here is how they stack up:
Athlon XP 1800+ pushed to FSB166 -->3DMark2001 = 10530
Duron XP 1800 pushed to FSB166 --> -II- =10354

Both were running on the Truth Board and didn't really get hotter than 55°C, I think.

I haven't tried unlocking the L2 cache yet, but if I manage to pull that off, this processor might actually be a beast for such a tiny amount of cash.🙂

And Microsoft... well, what can you say? They're based in the Midwest, so I suppose it's fine (there aren't many cheap options with any decent selection around here anyway).

I ended up buying my components separately (only grabbed the motherboard, CPU, and RAM at Microsoft), so I don't really care much either way.😉

My scores are pretty rough right now, but honestly, it’s just because of my graphics card, so I won't even bother typing them out... I don't even dare 😁

I only bumped my Duron up to about 1970 MHz, which puts me at FSB145, even though I guess it could probably go higher than that..

It actually hit 2250 MHz when I pushed it to FSB166, but honestly, it felt like the voltage had to jump all the way up to 2.0 just to keep things stable..

(I suspect my cheap little power supply just isn't cutting it😢 or maybe 😕 )

Time to brag a little. I pushed my PC-133 up to a whopping 152 MHz (FSB), and you guys aren't gonna believe it—it actually held steady for a full 15 minutes before hitting a black screen, triggering a CMOS reset, and forcing me to start all over again.

As for Microsoft, God forbid anything actually breaks; you'll just get a replacement next year. (At least that's the story since they swapped out the management at the Rhode Island office)

I pushed my Athlon 1.1 GHz from 1096 MHz all the way up to 1222MHz. It’s not even that much, but honestly, my cooling setup is absolute garbage right now, so I’m too terrified to push it any further.😁

Have you tried hitting Ctrl + F1? That should pull up the advanced BIOS settings.

Yeah, I managed to get my hands on the latency settings & stuff, but I’m still stuck with only about 10% more voltage headroom 😢

I wouldn't go that far. If it lacks high-end features, sure, it isn't meant for power users or heavy overclocking, but it’s still a decent enough product.

Alright, fine, maybe I went a little overboard there.
What I meant was the board—specifically the BIOS—is absolutely riddled with bugs and it’s a total nightmare if you even think about overclocking...

By the way, I’ve run into a bit of a head-scratcher: whenever I try to overclock the CPU, 3DMark2003 fails to recognize its actual frequency. It seems to misread it as some other speed every single time, and to make matters worse, the resulting score ends up being even lower than when I'm running the processor at stock speeds.😕

On a side note, my Athlon is being kept cool by a Zalman CNPS7000-CU, and I can push it up to 2.2GHz at 1.85V, which appears to be the absolute limit of stability. Sure, it might actually manage to boot at 2.4GHz, but honestly, there isn't much point in chasing that.
