Past INmusic Festival lineups & sets (Archive)

The rain wasn't really the issue, honestly... there was just this sudden, heavy downpour right as I was walking toward the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which left my shirt pretty soaked. We ended up grabbing some ponchos inside, so after that, the rain didn't bother me much; I even managed to win a little bag during some quiz thing and tucked my shirt away safely. I mean, sure, my feet were wet, but I suppose that’s hardly a dealbreaker when it isn't winter, and it definitely wasn't winter.
Then Go team played and it was fantastic—everything after that felt great, though I think Go team was really the highlight of the night. Plus, I still have my poncho to wear on my bike if it starts raining again. I took a stroll over to the miscellaneous acts, and man, they were just incredibly tedious. It’s pretty obvious they aren't much good when they insist on those endless, drawn-out solos on every single instrument.

Overall impression (😁 ) — GENIUS! Way better than anything at Madison Square Garden. 🙂

The rain totally killed my vibe. I ended up drinking a few too many beers while waiting for it to let up, so I definitely dropped the ball there too. But honestly, it was still awesome. Cave could have pushed those classic tracks a bit harder, but even like this, he was incredible.
And man, I really loved those Hot Chip tracks....

I used to think they were totally gay. Honestly, the most flamboyant band on the planet since Bronski Beat.
Of course, setting their look aside, the music is absolutely fantastic!

Cave is outstanding; it's just that the arrangement for Mercy Seat didn't quite sit right with me
but Papa Won't Leave You, hard on for Love, and Tupelo? Spot on 🙏

Cave’s set oscillated wildly between moments of sheer brilliance and absolute, soul-crushing boredom 🙂—it was honestly just tedious at times, reaching a point where it felt less like a concert and more like a private rehearsal for their own reunion, particularly during "The Mercy Seat" when they seemed more preoccupied with staring at their sheet music than actually performing 😬. And frankly, what was Warren Ellis even doing with all that electric mayhem and the ukulele 🙄? Just play the violin!

I don't know, I find myself somewhat unsettled by this version of Cave now that he seems to have realized the world is actually a beautiful place ☕

That being said, they absolutely tore through "Tupelo," "Stagger Lee," "let Love in," "Papa Won't Leave You," "Henry," and one new track whose name escaped me

As for Ellis’s beard 🙏 🙏 🙏

Rain, mud, massive lines at the entrance, and trekking back over an embankment that looked like a tank division had just rolled through on its way to Berlin.

But honestly, you can't even be mad when you see Cave perform like that.

My absolute favorite has to be Deanna 🙏 she absolutely kills it

I’ve been pounding these vitamin-loaded juices to combat this godforsaken flu, and honestly, after being on my feet for four straight hours yesterday, it felt like my body finally decided to vomit up everything I’ve endured over the last few days. So much for those marathon training sessions out on the trails. Regardless, I heard someone mention that Kanye is so legendary you can actually enjoy his music even when you aren't nursing a beer.

I'm just sitting here waiting for Serj Tankian to hit the stage today.
Plus, I think the stereo MC set could be pretty interesting too.

I’m seriously about to lose my mind over Kayve, I mean it. Look, I know taste is subjective and whatever, but to me, the whole thing just felt like some pretentious depressive trying way too hard to be edgy. And don't even get me started on the sound—if the mix hadn't been so trash, maybe the musicians actually could have sounded decent, but instead, the bass was just drowning out the vocals entirely...

But why am I so worked up? Why did the organizers drive my blood pressure through the roof? Seriously, the second it started raining, the bands just stopped playing. Then, once everyone finally got back into it, the organizers forced them to cut their sets short just so Kayve could hit his scheduled slot. The veštica played THREE songs. THREE. Go Team got rushed too. Hot Chip, same story. It was all just a massive setup to make sure "Papa Kayve" got his moment, and honestly, looking back, I almost regret being there at all. Thank God there were other acts to balance it out...

Dammit, I bought tickets to see the whole lineup, not just Kayve.

The rain didn't bother me. The mud didn't bother me. Even the overpriced beers and those endless lines outside the venue weren't the issue. It was just that incredibly stupid decision by the management. If Let 3 hadn't played right after Kayve, I would’ve gone home feeling totally depressed, probably ended up downloading all his albums and pretending I actually enjoyed it just to cope.

Great idea with the ponchos, though. Really top-tier stuff. If only they had actually handed them out to the people *in* the ponchos instead of letting soaked people stumble around in the rain asking anyone and everyone if they had a spare.

Anyway, despite all the chaos, I didn't see any major drama breaking out in the crowd, at least not from what I could tell. Everyone was actually pretty chill and acted somewhat civilly, like one big, weird, collective unit.

We'll see how tonight goes. They're saying more rain is coming. Honestly, I don't care anymore; at least this time I'll be prepared. (-:

Quick question for the group: Is the venue at Madison Square Garden an indoor setup, or are we talking about an outdoor stage?

Kev was pure genius.

Cave was absolutely incredible. This was my third time seeing them live, and I honestly think they’re even more captivating now than they were in their early days. Truly phenomenal.

While I went in expecting great things from Cave, the real surprise of the day was Ed Kuepper & Jeffrey Wegener. To be fair, the afternoon slot was terrible—you could practically count the audience on one hand—and they only played three songs. However, the sound was this fascinating blend of Sonic Youth and Midnight Oila, which makes sense given the guys are from Australia. They’re actually opening for Cave on their current tour, so I suppose that speaks for itself.

The vjestica and Amadou & Mariam sets were both pleasant and laid-back, though I ended up missing Sean Kutia. Let3 was as excellent as ever, but unfortunately, the venue was a total mess—muddy and way too cramped for everyone trying to catch them. It really would have been better if they had been moved to the Bud Light Stage.

As for everything else, it was hit or miss. I’ve never been much of a fan of Hot Chip or Go!Team, and personally, both sets felt a bit dull to me, though there seemed to be enough people in the crowd who enjoyed them...
