PC Build for $1,100

So... I am looking for an assessment from the resident "tech experts" here. I have put together a build for $2500... It isn't exactly my area of expertise, so I would appreciate some guidance in making sure I haven't missed anything. Here are the components:

NVIDIA GTX 960 2 GB GDDR5 super JetStream - NE5X960T1041J graphics card

Gigabyte s1150 GA-H97-D3H motherboard

First off, this CPU is a bad deal. You either go with that B85-G41 PC Mate paired with an Intel Core i5-4460, or you step it up to an Intel Core i5-4690k with a Z97 motherboard. It's basic math.

It looks like we're looking at a Crucial module, 8GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800, CL=11, Unbuffered, NON-ECC. Maybe that’s what you need.
I guess it's an Intel Core i5-4460.

Those H97 boards are just mediocre at best. You either spring for a decent motherboard or just grab an H81 for $103.

If the admin doesn't happen to have that R9 290 in stock—they seem to be lagging a bit on website updates lately—then you could look at putting together a configuration like this instead. ovom The cheaper ones have already sold out.

You could also go with that Gigabyte R9 390 from Centro; it offers more memory—though that isn't really a factor for your specific setup—and comes with a longer warranty.

If you're looking for an Ipsa panel, you can grab an Acer V236 for about $350. Or, honestly, you could always just pick up a BenQ GW2255 for $800-$900.

I can't seem to find that specific motherboard... only the B85M-DS3. Would that work? Regardless, I really like this build you put together. I think I'm going to go for it. Just let me know if the DS3 is a viable alternative for this setup.

Fine... thanks. One more thing regarding the R9 390 graphics card... I see there are about four or five different manufacturers listed. Is there one that stands out as the best choice, or does it truly not matter?

Honestly, given that Smartic linked it for over $400 gross, you won't find a better option out there. Just a heads-up though: I think it’s going to sell out fast. As usual, deals this good don't stay on the shelves for long.
