Hey everyone,

Not sure if this thread already exists, couldn't find it, so here goes 🙂>
What's the verdict on these parts?

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K (3.5GHz, 16MB, LGA1155)

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus (LGA1155 / Ram limit - 32Gb)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 1GB

RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB , Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB

Hard drive👋Seagate Caviar Green, 3.5", Smart Power, 64MB, WD5000AZRX - 500GB

SSD🙂Crucial V300 SATA 3, SV300S37A/60G - 60GB

PSU: Corsair CX, CP-9020047-EU - 500W

Price would be around $1333, let me know if you have any better suggestions for the same budget 🙂

Look, this is the IT help desk... you should probably move your request over to the Hardware section instead.

So, what kind of tasks are we actually talking about here? What’s this PC supposed to do?

Kate White4 said:Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the whole SSD versus HDD debate—you know, that classic crossroads every PC builder hits when they're putting together a new rig. Honestly, if you’re still clinging to an old Seagate drive as your primary boot drive, you are essentially trying to win a Formula 1 race while driving a lawnmower. It doesn't matter how much horsepower you have under the hood if your data delivery is stuck in a crawl. Moving to solid-state technology isn't just a minor upgrade; it’s like switching from a dusty old filing cabinet where you have to hunt through every drawer to find one single paper, to having everything instantly teleported right onto your desk. That snappy, "it just works" feeling when you hit the power button? That’s all thanks to the lack of moving parts. When you aren't waiting for a physical platter to spin up and a needle to find its spot, the entire experience of using a computer changes. It’s night and day. I know some people get hung up on the price per gigabyte, and sure, a massive Seagate drive might look better on a spreadsheet if you're just hoarding raw video files or huge backups. But for your OS, your apps, and anything you actually *use* on a daily basis? An SSD is non-negotiable in this day and age. It’s the single most impactful thing you can do to breathe life back into an aging machine. Trust me, once you make the jump, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.🙂I've been looking into this Kingston V300 SATA 3 drive—specifically that 60GB model (SV300S37A/60G)—and I wanted to share some thoughts. It’s basically a budget-friendly way to breathe a little life into an older machine, though you definitely have to be mindful of the capacity. It's like trying to fit a whole week's worth of groceries into a tiny reusable bag; it works if you're careful, but you can't just go grabbing everything in sight without running out of room pretty quickly!

Whatever you do, stay far away from this drive. Seriously—unless someone is handing it to you for free or you’re picking it up at a massive 70% discount, just pass on it. It’s not that the thing is broken or totally dead, but Crucial switched up their memory type recently, and it’s causing some really weird hiccups during certain stress tests. In a standard, everyday setup, sure, it’s still going to feel about ten times faster than an old Seagate, but why would you even bother? You can find much more reliable options for basically the same price. $17 Look, you can always aim higher when it comes to your storage setup—you could honestly be looking at a much more substantial SSD.
