Please just issue a permanent ban or go ahead and delete my profile, whatever works best for you guys. I don't have any intention of ever using this account again.

Keeping this thread open so I don't have to start a new one. I’m looking to request a permanent ban for this user, just like the guy mentioned above. I tried asking on the other board, but they weren't interested, so I'm assuming you guys handle these kinds of requests here.

Thanks, Timothy Robinson2

If it's possible, I’d actually like to request a permanent ban, just like the user mentioned above. Thanks, Timothy Robinson2

If you don't mind me asking, why the push for a permanent ban? It feels a bit extreme. Honestly, there aren't many people on the Religion board who can actually hold a decent conversation anyway, so it seems like a shame to walk away for good.

Roger Barrett2 said:And why on earth would you want a permanent ban? If it isn't a secret, I guess.

Sure, it’s no secret.

On the religion subreddit, I just ended up venting about myself. Here's the post:
I don't know. Maybe people just like feeling superior. I guess that’s why those threads on Reddit get so heated. Everyone wants to be the smartest person in the room, even when they have no clue what they're talking about. It's exhausting, honestly. Just constant noise.

I laid out what bugs me in that last post, but since I haven't been banned yet, I might as well write out the full "chronology of my annoyance."

Got my first warning because of this post:
I don't know. Maybe. It’s hard to say for sure without seeing how things actually play out on the ground. I guess there's always that possibility, but honestly, I wouldn't bet much on it. People like to jump to conclusions, but in my experience, it usually just ends up being more of the same. Just one of those things, I suppose.

The post itself could be seen as aggressive, I guess. But looking at the thread where it was originally posted, the first message said this: I don't know. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but it feels like we're all just circling the drain here. Every time someone brings up some big idea for change, it just ends up being more of the same corporate nonsense. It’s exhausting, honestly. I guess I should probably expect nothing more than disappointment at this point. Might be better to just tune out entirely.Look, this topic technically goes against the terms of service, if I'm being honest. But whatever. I’ll try to be as constructive as possible with this next post. I guess I don't see what the big deal is. Maybe people just like arguing for the sake of it. Honestly, I think most of this is just noise. It’s hard to tell who’s actually serious and who’s just trolling at this point. Just my two cents, I suppose.

I guess I’ve done my part for the thread. I'm sticking around just to see what actually happened to that guy's grandma. Meanwhile, here comes the next post: I don't know. Maybe. I guess people just like to complain about things that don't actually matter. It’s kind of always been like this, I suppose. Everyone has an opinion on everything, even when they clearly have no clue what they're talking about. Just noise, really. But besides that, there's this other deleted post I managed to save, which goes like this:

Give me a break. What exactly is it you're looking for here? Censorship? Some kind of way to kiss up to priests? I don't see how you get to lecture anyone about hate speech just because someone made a comparison. You're acting like they're nothing short of Nazis, the Taliban, or those North Korean communists. It's a bit much, I guess.
North Korea? She wasn't lying. Honestly, she hit the nail on the head. The elites just cruise around in luxury cars doing absolutely nothing. They live off the taxpayers and occupy the most expensive real estate in the country. I guess if you actually spent some time walking around the city and paying attention, you'd see exactly who they are.
Being a Catholic is enough. If you aren't? Well, that's on you. I guess those days are long gone.

People have every right to be pissed off. It’s one thing to disagree, but it's another to be that disrespectful to an old lady, especially when they’ve got everything handed to them on a silver platter. I guess it just shows how much some people lack basic decency.
Who even are they? Some kind of superpower? I guess it’s just sad that people around here haven't realized we actually live in a free country—one where the church isn't supposed to hold us all hostage.
What's going to happen when they start threatening us with hell?😂?

The text was bolded like that when it was posted, not because I wanted it to be. After that post went up, I made the comment that got me my first warning. Since I was new to the forum back then, I didn't really get how the appeals process worked, so I just sent a private message to the moderator who issued the strike. She never replied, so I figured I’d just let it go and move on. Meanwhile, the original author, north wind, didn't get any penalty at all—her post was just deleted without a single warning. Now she's accusing me of trolling.

I’ll probably be getting my next two strikes within two minutes. It's just pure trolling at this point. Everything went down on this thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/thread613333. I get my first warning at 5:17 PM and the second at 5:19 PM. It was such a short window I didn't even catch the first one, let alone the second. Because of those two, I'm banned for three
days—totally unnecessary, losing 70 points. First off, the initial warnings were private, and the posts weren't even deleted immediately, just later. Since they're gone now, I'll put them here:

Don't listen to these women. I know they'd rather wear leg casts than rings on their fingers; they'd rather change the whole country than just their last name or whatever.

That’s part of the post. It was clearly controversial, and on its own, it made sense. But given the context of the post below it, the thread title, and the fact that the moderator was actually participating in the discussion and could follow along, it can't be anything other than some kind of attack on me and what I was supporting in that thread. The moderator, Tupelo, asked me via that first warning not to label people. Here was the response from the person who supposedly felt labeled:

Umm.... Am I one of "those women" too? 😍

Because if so, you're doing a criminally bad job of interpreting what you read. 🙂

From that, it seems pretty obvious to me that she (Nica) clearly saw I was talking to her personally, and based on the emojis she used, I doubt she felt attacked. Two minutes after that, I confirmed to her that it *did*
apply to her, and I got another warning.

Again, 70 points in two minutes and a three-day ban over these posts.

The fourth warning was beyond anything. Not because I got it, but because of how it happened. I got it for posting images in this thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/thread616735. Earlier, some user posted a bunch of massive images in a row at 11:48 AM. No reaction from anyone. It sucks how one-sided this goes, so at 1:23 PM, I post my images. Then, weirdly enough, I get a warning at 4:52 PM while he gets his at 4:58 PM.

I get flagged before him, even though I posted my stuff two hours later. It’s obvious they were just punishing him too to compensate, since the bias was so blatant. That same user posts more images in the next post: http://www.reddit.com/r/showpost?p=3...7&postcount=49. One of them is clearly photoshopped, which is a direct violation of Rule 5 in the Religion subforum.

While I'm writing this, I've only made six posts, but back then, he was dropping subsequent posts in the same thread like:
http://www.reddit.com/r/showpost?p=3...9&postcount=52
http://www.reddit.com/r/showpost?p=3...6&postcount=18
without any sanctions, even though he's obviously trolling—it was basically 90% of his posts at that point.

Anyway, I keep getting warnings for nothing, or maybe if you actually bother to read the five surrounding posts to see the context and whether someone is actually being insulted or provoked.

The warning and ban for Rob-Roy really bothered me, specifically this one:
http://www.reddit.com/r/showpost?p=3...5&postcount=70. The same user was banned afterward for these reasons: I don't know. Maybe people just like to complain. I was scrolling through Reddit earlier and saw some guy—hollowranger26—saying that everything is falling apart. Then you have hollowtrucker77 chiming in about how nothing ever works anyway. It’s all just noise, I guess. Timothy Robinson2 thinks there's some deeper reason for why things feel so broken lately, but honestly? Probably just human nature. People love to vent. Roger Barrett2 mentioned something similar about how expectations always outpace reality. And then there's Nicholas King, who seems convinced it's all a massive conspiracy, which... maybe. Who knows. It feels like everyone is just waiting for something to break so they can say "I told you so." darksailor2 was acting pretty much the same way. Just a lot of cynicism. Not that I'm judging. I get it. Everything feels a bit shaky these days. I guess we're all just riding it out..

I should probably add some quick context here. He got flagged because he lost his cool after this next comment:
It's way too much. Comparing something as benign as a blowjob to a hostess is just over the line. It’s an insult to the dick, I guess.

I should probably mention this over on the religion subreddit. He’s using this comparison where he says saying something like that is just as bad as someone screaming profanities at your mother or sister—and then getting banned for it.

When the Tyndall admin starts complaining, he might as well be talking to himself.

That’s not a forum issue, it’s just your issue. I don't see why we should care about some random thing that happens to be your whole world. If you can't handle people making fun of something like a communion wafer, maybe the internet isn't for you.

So, if that logic holds, everyone should be allowed to mock whatever they want. I’m fine with that—it’s the internet, after all. But at the same time, getting banned just for comparing two sacred things? That doesn't really square with what was said above. I guess.

If people shouldn't care about some "sacred object" that's supposed to be their whole world—if they're allowed to just mock it—then I guess mothers fall into that category too. Just saying.
Comparing something as harmless as a blowjob to being a sex worker is a bit much. It’s actually an insult to the dick.

-

For some Christians, you can get away with a lot, but if you insult their mother or sister? That's where they draw the line. It's like hitting a nerve you didn't even know was there. I guess it's just how they're wired.

Maybe it would all be justifiable, and honestly, maybe we shouldn't even bother worrying about people's feelings. But still, we're on the Religion subreddit, and you can't exactly punish one thing while just letting the other slide. Not here.

Anyway, thanks to Roger Barrett2 for actually paying attention. It’s just proof I’m not some troll—though god knows how many people on here think I am. If you look at my other posts, there are enough references in there to show how I usually handle things.

I don't know. Maybe. I guess people just like complaining about things they can't change. It's easier than actually doing anything, I suppose. Just noise, really.
I guess it’s just one of those things. I don't know. Maybe people just want to feel like they're part of something bigger, even if it's just some online drama. It feels kind of pointless, honestly. Just noise. Everyone's shouting, but nobody's actually saying anything. I don't know. It's all just a bit much.
I don't know. Maybe. I guess people just love complaining about things they can't control. It’s always the same pattern, isn't it? Everyone acts like they have all the answers, but most of them are just shouting into the void. Probably doesn't change anything anyway. Just my two cents.
I don't know. Maybe. It’s hard to say for sure without more info. I guess it could go either way, really. People always have an opinion on this stuff, but honestly, most of them don't know what they're talking about. Just my two cents, I suppose.
I don't know. Maybe people just like to talk. It feels like everyone on Reddit is just looking for an audience, I guess. Some people spend all day arguing about things that don't matter, while others just sit back and watch the chaos unfold. It’s all pretty much the same everywhere you go. Just noise, really.
I don't know. Maybe. It seems like everyone’s just shouting into the void lately. I guess people think they have all the answers, but honestly, most of this stuff feels pretty empty to me. Just noise.

I don't know. Maybe. It’s just one of those things where everyone thinks they have the answer, but nobody actually knows what they're talking about. I guess people just love to argue on Reddit. It doesn't change much. Probably won't change anything at all.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I think people overcomplicate things too much. It feels like everyone is constantly looking for some deep, hidden meaning when the reality is usually pretty simple and kind of underwhelming. I guess we all want to believe there's more to the story, but most of the time, there isn't. Just my two cents, I suppose.

I know I probably sound like a total wimp right now, but honestly, this stuff just gets under my skin. At the end of the day, there’s an actual human being behind this account.

I feel like I’m constantly being targeted just because I try to stick to conservative viewpoints. It’s also pretty annoying how the moderation works—they're incredibly tolerant of liberal takes, but what's even worse is that they don't actually penalize them when they go too far.
It’s just trolling. At the same time, any hint of sarcasm from a more conservative viewpoint gets slapped with a ban.

I guess I'm just looking to lose 70 points and get a three-day ban in under two minutes.

On the subreddits I hang out in, it's just like Roger Barrett2 said—you can count the constructive posts that actually move a conversation forward on one hand. Usually, after I post something, the thread stretches out over several pages and stays relatively productive, which I suppose helps you guys with ad revenue.

I don't know what your business model is, but if you keep this up for long, you’re going to drive away anyone with good intentions or an interest in actual debate. Pretty soon, aside from Law and stuff like that, every single board will just be empty chat rooms or half-dead threads.

So, those are my reasons for asking for a permanent ban. It’s a protest against moderation that's biased, retroactive, instigating, subjective, and short-sighted. 👍

One thing about these increasingly frequent demands for permanent bans that leaves me completely baffled is this one simple question: why isn't it enough for someone to just forget about Reddit and their account entirely and move on to some other corner of the internet? I mean, seriously—what is the point of all this dramatic theater involving requests for a permanent ban?

If getting a permanent ban is such a massive deal for whatever incomprehensible reason they have, wouldn't it be far more impactful to just go out in a blaze of glory and drop a few truly legendary, scorched-earth posts before leaving? 😕

Timothy Robinson2 said:What really bothered me was the warning and subsequent ban of a fellow user, Rob-Roy, specifically regarding this:
http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...5&postcount=70. That same user was later banned for these reasons: http://www.reddit.com/showthread.php?t=617192.

To provide a bit of context, he received a strike because he lost his cool following a specific statement—keep in mind, we’re talking about the religion subforum here. He used an analogy, suggesting that making such a comment was as offensive as someone shouting profanities at your mother or sister, and that's what earned him the strike.

When he appealed to the administrator, Tyndall, the response was essentially:

The logic there implies that everyone should just endure the mockery of sacred things. I get it—we're on the internet—but banning someone for comparing two sacred concepts feels inconsistent with the reasoning provided above.

If we aren't supposed to care about "certain subjects" that people hold dear, and if mocking them is perfectly fine, then logically, that would include a person's mother. Consider the sentence:

For a devout Catholic or Christian, being insulted in that way can be more painful than being told their mother or sister is a whore.

Perhaps everything should be fair game and we shouldn't worry about anyone's feelings, but we are in the RELIGION section, and it seems hypocritical to penalize one type of comment while letting the other slide right here in this forum.

Anyway, I want to thank Roger Barrett2 for looking into this. It’s just proof that I’m not some random troll; given how many strikes I seem to rack up, you'd think I was a serial agitator, but there are plenty of other posts that show my actual style of participation:

http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...1&postcount=16
http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=31279462&postcount=2
http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...2&postcount=18
http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...0&postcount=23
http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...&postcount=118
http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...1&postcount=16

http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...&postcount=172
http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...0&postcount=25

I know I might sound like I'm whining, but these things genuinely bother me. There is a real person behind this username.

I often feel like I have a target on my back simply because I try to respond from a conservative standpoint. It also frustrates me that moderation seems to grant extreme tolerance to liberal views, while even more glaringly, blatant
trolling goes unpunished, yet any hint of sarcasm coming from a conservative perspective gets slapped with a strike.

I’ll just weigh in on this whole situation involving Rob Roy. I actually reached out to the moderator, blue bird, via private message about it myself. As for those other posts you mentioned, I’ve taken a quick look, but I'm going to pass on commenting on them for now. Honestly, without digging through the entire thread to get the full context, I don't feel like I could offer a truly meaningful or fair opinion, and there's just way too much ground to cover to do it right.

Look, I’m not Catholic, so the whole whole Eucharist thing doesn't really hold any weight for me personally. But even so, you can clearly see from an aerial view that calling another guy on Reddit a total scumbag is way out of line. I honestly can't wrap my head around the logic they used to hand out a ban for that kind of behavior.

I honestly don't even want to get into that comparison between hosts and... well, let's just leave it at that. "Freedom of speech" has become this convenient catch-all phrase people throw around whenever they feel like they aren't getting their way. It’s become a bit of a wildcard. That’s exactly why I suggested to Blue Bird that they put together a clear, definitive list—something outlining what’s actually permissible and where the line is drawn. If we had a set of guidelines to help everyone navigate how to express themselves, things would be much smoother. Right now, it feels like everyone is just making up their own rules on the fly, interpreting things however suits them best. That's precisely why we see so much unnecessary friction and constant clashing in these discussions.

Nicholas King said:Why can't people just forget about Reddit and their accounts and move on to some other corner of the internet? Why all this drama over demanding a permanent ban?

Because there are actual people behind those usernames.

If getting a permanent ban for whatever incomprehensible reason is such a big deal,

From what I can see, there aren't many left who complain about being permanently banned. I think it's worth asking, though. If someone spends forty-five seconds clicking through the right menus and knows exactly what they're doing—well, maybe they should consider why the person requesting the ban is angry. Maybe that person is partially right. And maybe, if someone stays stuck on the idea that something was simply wrong or inhumane, they might remember that there are real people behind these handles, not just IP addresses.

wouldn't it be more effective to go out in a blaze of glory with a few intense, suicidal posts? 😕

What, should they start swearing, insulting, or dragging people through the mud...

I was reading through the appeal by Rob Roy over on Reddit, and I see this is one of those hot topics being debated here too!
I feel bad about not commenting on your posts, because I haven't seen all the context or the full discussions—there’s just way too much going on 😉

Regarding Rob Roy, I honestly don't get the ban for insulting someone's mother. If I use an analogy and say, "imagine if your mother were a criminal/murderer/hooker," I'm not actually trying to insult anyone. Besides, looking at how the user responded to that comparison, it’s pretty obvious they didn't take offense; they just took it as an analogy! On top of that, it makes even less sense to me how a post containing a statement like this:

Comparing something as benign as a communion wafer to a hooker is going too far. It's an insult to the wafer itself

could go unpunished! 😲 This is such an OBVIOUS insult toward Christians, Christianity, the church, and God, not to mention anything else! I'm not some super devout believer—I'm not out here kissing altars—but for something like this to be written and not result in a penalty is ABSURD!
I get that some people are atheists or believe in holy cows or sun gods or whatever, but I'm not Muslim, so I don't insult their faith, especially not like this! 🤷

Beyond all that, you expect the admin to look at all the facts, including both banned and unbanned posts, to form an opinion, but instead, you get this:

You got banned for implying a user's mother is a prostitute. Your views on the sanctity of certain objects don't concern us at all; you can express them and others are free to express negative opinions about them.

😲
"Express negative opinions about the sanctity of certain objects"? Certain? We're talking about the Eucharist, about Christianity... and as far as I know, we live in a predominantly Christian country, so allowing this kind of thing on our forum is just plain crazy!!!

Anyway, that's my take. I hope maybe hollowtrucker77 looks at this situation from a different perspective! 🤷

Edit: Later in that same thread, the moderator for the religion sub posted:

VeronikaN said:Mr. AoF, mocking someone else's sacred symbols is primarily a sign of personal or general lack of culture.😉
Because that isn't criticism or disagreement, which everyone has a right to under freedom of speech.

...so, she's saying that mocking sacred things (like the Host) is a sign of being uncivilized! Yet the comment from that specific user/moderator who mocked the Host goes unpunished! 🤷

Most of us might talk trash about Muslims being this or that, but if you said something like this to a Muslim, you wouldn't get away with it! But here, in our country, on our forum, this is allowed... and it's directed at Christianity!!! 🙄

I'm honestly embarrassed that someone can come onto this forum, in the US , read that post, and see that it went unpunished... and that too in the religion sub!!!
One of the rules of that sub is:

8) Any kind of personal insults, disparagement, or discrimination against forum members is strictly prohibited.

I’d say that counts as a personal insult! And honestly, it isn't just me—it's a huge chunk of the American public who feels that way too.

Well, I guess I'm officially done for now. 😁

Actually... at least for now. 😬

Glad we had a quick chat about Rob-Roy and his ban. He’s actually a bigger deal here; he got flagged for just two replies to a direct attack. On a scale of aggression, he was at a 0.5 while his opponent was sitting at a 100.

Not trying to complain directly, but his ban played a huge part in why I'm writing this long-winded post. The whole point of my appeal is really about questionable calls—decisions made without looking at the context, whether they were good or bad.

Honestly, I think it’d be more important to explain to him exactly why they reacted that way toward him, rather than focusing on my post. I asked for a permanent ban as a protest, not out of some bitter anger (though I stand by everything I complained about, 70 points feels like overkill for my "trolling"). Regardless of if or when I get a response, I’m asking that they take another look at Rob-Roy’s posts and penalties.

Personally, I think those last few strikes should be wiped, and someone in admin should probably send him a DM to apologize.

If they did that, there would be no martyrdom involved. With a permaban, however, they get to play the victim: "See? I told you! They banned me just because of my opinions!" It’s nothing more than an ego trip.👍
