Plan B advice needed

Hey everyone

So, I've got a bit of a situation. I was with my girlfriend last night, and she isn't on birth control, though we were using a condom. The issue is the condom broke. I didn't realize it right away, but thank God I didn't finish inside her! That said, from what I understand, there's still pre-cum involved during sex. I got worried and told her she should take Plan B. Now, I honestly have no clue how this works and would love some info! Can anyone tell me which brands are good, what they cost, and how you're supposed to dose them?

Look, Plan B works if you take it within 48 hours of sex. The sooner you take it, the higher the success rate. It uses one or two hormones to prevent an egg from implanting. That’s the short version.

Oh, and just so you know, in places like the UK, you don't need a prescription—you can grab it anywhere, like a pharmacy or a convenience store.

In the US, you generally need a prescription. You almost never see them available unless a doctor writes one for you.

There isn't much risk involved, but you shouldn't be using it constantly. Save it for emergencies, like when a condom breaks or you miss a birth control pill.

Plan B is not a primary method of protection. It shouldn't be your go-to way to prevent pregnancy.

Also, Plan B provides zero protection against STDs.

I wouldn't say the nausea is always that bad...

Personally, I think using these over-the-counter pills is a better move than whatever a gynecologist in the US might prescribe... but that's just my take.

Out of all those potential side effects, I "only" dealt with nausea and dizziness—which honestly felt like being hit by a truck

I actually used it once and didn't feel too terrible. I just felt a little bit off, you know? A friend of mine had some Plan B on hand, and I really wasn't in the mood to go hunting through pharmacies or track down an emergency clinic in the middle of the night.

I ended up looking everything up online to figure out exactly what to do and how much to take, since quite a few different birth control pills can work for that purpose... you just have to know whether you need two or four pills spaced out every 12 hours.

Same thing here with the "rupture"... and it happened right on the 12th day.

Everything turned out fine! My girlfriend went to her doctor, and it turns out she's nowhere near her fertile window. She should be getting her period in about five days, so the chances of her getting pregnant are basically zero!
