Since I’m not getting any traction over there, I figured I’d drop a poll suggestion here instead:

Should the US open its borders to immigrants?
YES
NO

Speaking strictly as a fellow user here, rather than some official moderator making an announcement, I can't help but feel we should be offering a few more middle-ground options... because honestly, most people seem to be looking for something in between, whereas this currently feels like a choice between "everyone gets everything" or "absolutely nothing at all."

Banning everyone who displays racism (with a 100-point penalty) would mean removing or deleting all racist posts within this thread. This includes any content that incites or promotes intolerance. Whether based on religion, race, ethnicity, or any other

As we know, that kind of behavior is illegal. People with extremist, far-right, or legally questionable views should find somewhere else to vent their opinions—somewhere appropriate—so they don't "pollute" this space. It makes it impossible for decent people to have a normal conversation.

Just a suggestion.

By the way, I hope the forum owner is reading this too (just to ensure they're aware of what's actually happening here).

Look, the mods are free to toss in other choices like "undecided" or "yes, but only until the EU starts shutting down the borders with America," or whatever else they feel like. But at its core, this is essentially a binary choice: everyone joins or nobody does.

@Susan Price30
At the end of the day, this is just a thread about a poll, not a discussion regarding the actual content of people's posts.

The way this poll is set up feels way too restrictive.

Does this apply to all immigrants, or just a specific group?
Are we talking about economic migrants and refugees, or strictly one or the other?

I have plenty more questions 😬, but we could be here forever...

What are you even talking about? If you’re suggesting we should be able to vet them, it implies they’ve already crossed the border and the gates are wide open... and since things seem to be improving, there isn't even a poll to be exclusive about.
Nobody is forced to vote if they don't want to.

I wonder what the mods are so afraid of. They've been ignoring this for days despite being told they'd post it. What's the issue—is the forum not going to be as liberal as you all clearly want it to be?

Given the topic, it’s definitely aimed at the current wave of people crossing the border illegally.

If that isn't obvious, I don't think any amount of extra clarification is going to help him see reason.

What’s your stance on opening up our borders to immigrants?
YES, regardless of the circumstances
NO
YES, but only for refugees fleeing war zones
YES, for everyone, provided we collect their personal data first
YES, but strictly as a transit process without them staying
I don't have an opinion
I couldn't care less

If there are four different ways to say YES, why is there only one way to say NO?...

If you don't get what I'm asking, please just sit this one out...

Should we close the borders to persecuted minorities, like those Syrian Christians? There are plenty of them in that wave, certainly...

We really need to include all the minority groups in this survey! It's so important...

The poll at the end feels a bit nonsensical to me. If we’ve already opened the floodgates to the US, then all this talk about closing borders and refusing entry just doesn't hold water.
