Hey there, folks,
I’m honestly at a total loss here—I don't even know who to turn to, where to go, or how to phrase this anymore. I’ve reached out to everything from the US Xbox support teams to the English-language forums, begging for a fix, a workaround, or even just a hint, but I’ve hit nothing but dead ends. So, I figured I’d try my luck with IBM, thinking maybe someone here might actually have an answer... because man, I am in deep trouble. For the last two days, I’ve been wrestling with this nightmare on my Xbox Slim (500GB). It all started while I was playing FIFA 18; out of nowhere, the screen just froze solid. I tried hitting the home button, then tried to close the app, but I couldn't even get back to the main dashboard. Eventually, I just forced it to shut down after sitting there for a few minutes. When I turned it on the next morning, everything seemed fine at first—I saw the Xbox logo, got to the home screen, and clicked on FIFA again. But the Fidelity loading screen just kept spinning forever. I tried restarting the app, but that just led right back to the freeze, and since then, things have gone downhill fast. Now, the console won't get past the initial Xbox logo. Safe Mode gives me all the usual options, but it won't actually finish executing them—not the updates, not the initialization, nothing. Every time I try an update or a reset, I get errors like "cannot start Xbox" or "cannot access system storage." I even spent yesterday afternoon trying to run an update via a USB drive using the files I downloaded directly from your official site—naming everything exactly as instructed—but it’s useless. It gets to the point where it needs to confirm the user, and then it just hits a black screen and dies. Sometimes the light just stays white or blue, and it stays that way.
So, yeah, that’s the situation. It’s been driving me absolutely insane for forty-eight hours straight, so if anyone has any idea how to fix this, I would be incredibly grateful.
BTW: before you tell me to try a full reinstall file, let me save you the breath—I’ve already done that. I tried the 5.55 update file too. At this point, Safe Mode won't even let me try anything other than the option to wipe everything and perform a clean install. I’ve been sitting here like an idiot repeatedly trying that, but it just gets to 99% and then spits out one of those errors I mentioned above. I even thought about trying to update via the internet by plugging in a LAN cable, but of course, I didn't think of that soon enough—because like I said, the only thing Safe Mode will even attempt lately is that final wipe. I haven't slept in two days because I've been stuck fighting this piece of junk...

If you haven't quite caught on by this point... your hard drive is toast. If you've still got a warranty running, just take it back to the manufacturer, but if you're out of luck, your best bet is to simply pick up a new one, pop it in, and get everything installed.

I mean, I have to agree with Jack Alvarez on this one—it sounds to me like you've got a major hardware failure on your hands, and honestly, I'm pretty damn sure about it.
